When I was around 7, my mom used to go to the gym twice a week but because no one could take care of me at home, she would take me with her, where I would wait for her to be done in the reception of the gym. I usually did homework or played with my DS, but there was also this one big TV where some music video TV channel was always on. That way, I ended up watching lots of mv's but one stuck with me. I just remember a lady coming out of a tree and flashing to some guys, a fat man getting his limbs thrown into the ocean, and some bridge scene. I was 7, so it pretty much traumatized me because it was so dammed vivid. I tried to find that mv for 12 years, but nothing. Ironically, I've been listening to radiohead around 4 and this one song was one of my favorites. I always use Spotify, but still, I have no idea how I never came across this legendary video. Just imagine my surprise yesterday, looking this song up on YT, and finding that weirdass video from my childhood. That way, I can say radiohead has always been with me, be in the form of music or in the form of nightmares.

Their early work was a little too Brit pop for my tastes, but when OK Computer came out in '97, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. They've been compared to Pink Floyd, but I think Radiohead has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

In 2000, Radiohead released this 👉 Kid A, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "The National Anthem", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

The animator who made the video is a semi famous swedish animator who does actual children’s shows. All of us here are sharing the same ’suddenly seeing this as a 7 year old and thinking it was a cartoon’ story. We were neighbors too, so sometimes after school we’d hang out. I had thought he went home early due a doctors appointment, because that’s a common thing in our school district. I began college during summer of 1997 (At 18, I began taking three classes). That summer literallly began with Mike Tyson biting Holyfield's ear off, ends with Princess Diana dead, and in the middle: I meet a beautiful college girl who I got into my 1st relationship with and lost my virginity to while this song by Radiohead is playing. Little do I know is that she is at the age where schizophrenia begins developing, which leads into some VERY chaotic moments later on

This song is one of the best examples of the concept of "organized chaos". It's a swirling, churning, rising, tumbling, cacophony of sound & melody. It's frantic, frenetic, melodic, melancholy, on the border of bedlam but yet somehow never loses control. A work of GENIUS! IMHO. Also, animation is great but try this: ignore the images and just listen - they distract from the sound and have little or nothing to do with the lyrics.

Radiohead commissioned Magnus Carlsson, Swedish creator of the animated series Robin to make this video. The band sent Carlsson a recording of the song without any lyrics because they didn't want the video to be too literal. He locked himself in his office for over 12 hours listening to the song on repeat while jotting down visual ideas for the video, which features Robin and his friend Benjamin from his animated series. I'm guessing around the 11th hour of being locked in his office, his ideas started getting a bit weird...

It's funny that "Creep" is being accepted as the best song of Radiohead while this + much more masterpieces exist. This, i think, indicates how misunderstood Radiohead is. Of course Creep is an amazing song but the vast attention it has gotten puts a shadow on the songs which are actually better (especially this song). This might be the reason why Thom Yorke "hates" Creep. They just weren't proud of the attention they had gotten because of a single song, plus they knew that Creep just wasnt their type. By the time of OK Computer and Kid A, they had made way more interesting and experimental music that I think they're way more proud of.
@henmister394 жыл бұрын
Who is saying that creep is their best song though? Yes it’s their most mainstream and most successful song, but saying that it’s their “best” song in terms of quality is a pretty unpopular opinion

I remember years ago I joined this service called britannia music, I think they were. You used to order cds each month off them, they'd post you a cd of the month coming up, and if you didn't want it you had to send it back saying no. One month I forgot to reply back to them, and that album happened to be OK computer. It arrived and I said wtf is this, radiohead suck. So I put it on and was blown away by it, considering how I felt about radiohead, when I listen to my first album of them, it was brilliant. Paranoid android for me stood out on the album, it's still one of my fav. 👍

@ckorp6664 жыл бұрын
it sucks but it makes sense - creep is simple and instantly relatable on its surface, it's kinda like a blues song in how it just plainly lays out an emotion that ppl connect with. this song weaves that emotion (a much more ethereal, yet deeply felt one) between layers of metaphor and progression that make it way slower to absorb. it resonates on a level that's hard to put words to, while saying a hell of a lot more than "ngl, feelin like a creep rn". this is all to say, they're different types of songs and creep is going to be more accessible by the nature of what it is

As a classical pianist I only ever heard the beautifully crunchy melodies. A pop song has never moved me like this one. I was born in 1990. I remember this as an 8 year old and it scared me, excited me, and all around made me feel like life was special. I’ll never forget it.

Considering what the song's title is a reference to, that's ironic.

When I first watched this video, I was around 6yrs old. My dad was watching MTV and I was supposed to be asleep but he let me stay up to watch videos with him. For years, this video was embedded in my memory. The scene where he cuts his limbs with the axe and the mermaids put him in a tree always stuck with me. when I asked my dad if he remembered it, he would always say no or idk what you’re talking about. Fast forward about 12yrs later, I snuck out of my house to hang out with my boyfriend and got high as fuck. We had the tv on all night and I hadn’t been paying any attention to what was playing. I heard a familiar song and looked to the tv. I freaked the fuck out. I started jumping and shaking my boyfriend like, “omgomgomgggg this is the video!!!!” He didn’t know what I was talking about, so I told him the same story. It was a wild experience. Fast forward to now, I’m 28 and this video and song still remains in my core memories. I fucking love Radiohead.
