I just acquired this scanner from a friend. Her husband passed and she gave this to me. I have the manual but this video seems easier to follow as to use. I see these on ebay in the $50+ range so I guess "free" is a good deal. Thanks for an informative video.

when i try to add a frequency when i press E it says "error" do you know why?

How do you erase all the banks & channels ?

Turn off the scanner, hold down number buttons 2 and 9 at the same time, turn scanner back on, hold buttons for about 10 seconds, and everything will be cleared.

I just want to monitor 2 meters and 70cm. But am I understanding this will only scan frequencies I manually program in? In other words, it won’t just scan 144-149 MHz or 420-450 MHz? I hope not, because I just got one of these today and that’s very disappointing.

How is the range on this scanner(I'm looking to tune into the airband around 8miles away) and how does it compare to the handhelds from radio shack?

I have this set up as a base station at my house and I'm using the original telescoping antenna(its really crappy) I can't pickup my airports ATIS or anything else which is 4 miles away. But it picks up 800mhz pretty well. I have a Uniden BCD996p2 in my truck with a German scanner antenna and it can pick up the airport with no problem. So it just depends on the antenna.

The Antenna is really bad. I just connect a rubber or exterior antenna. Used to pick up military aircraft and Air Force One when they flew in. Had this scanner for years, our city is digital but the county uses the old system. Using it to listen to ham radio now, works well for that.

An outside antenna will improve the reception. I am sure you are aware of that, but also depends on the terrain where you live. I live near Orlando, Florida and I can pick up Orlando International Airport and Sanford-Orlando Airport very well with the stock antenna. I also have a Disconed Antenna which performed very good!! It is a pretty good radio if you are not into heavy duty scanning... 73, Joe-k4jga
