Good to hear your voice again going into the new year Brian. The school record player I bought from you is still going strong and got a good workout playing old Christmas LPs this holiday season. I've pulled out one Amazon and one FedEx van so far this Christmas season with the New Holland tractor. I pulled the rear bumper off the Amazon truck getting him out. He said it was against Amazon policy to get help from customers but he was blocking our lane and the county road. Too bad, too sad. These drivers they hire can't read or speak English. No wonder they drive into ditches

Happy New Year, and I should have watched the whole video before making my first comment about an easy repair! Great job finding all those little issues and making the 6K6 to 41 tube adapter. It's a shame there are hardly any AM stations around any more that are worth listening to. These old radios can sound great on AM, especially with 8" or bigger speakers, if I would have been able to be around doing this hobby back in the 1960s and 70s, maybe also some in the 80s, there would have been plenty of great music to listen to on AM!

Great repair! Good save on that Grunow. Can't recall ever seeing much of their brand around here. I have never worked on their brand before. Happy new year to you Brian! 🍻

Good find for an easy repair! Don't get me started about shipping, I had ordered R-C network couplates for a Predicta TV from the TV Restorer Guy back in July, and just finally received them yesterday! Tracking showed them being stuck at a USPS distribution center for weeks on end, so I contacted him about not receiving them, and he sent me another set of them, which I received in a reasonable time. I just paid him for the extra set I received 5 months late, as I will keep them for future projects.

When I see or hear the brand Grunow, it instantly makes me think of Grigsby-Grunow. They built Majestic branded radios until 1934, and was succeeded by Majestic Radio and Television.

Great! I've been waiting for something worth watching. Amazon will take a picture of the package on my porch when they deliver it. They all need to do that.

Many thanks Bryan! Thanks for for the proper use of the word “shipping.” I’m getting tired of movie buffs misusing the word to mean “seeking a romantic relationship.” That is my rant.

An unusual design which can throw anyone unfamilar with only regular AA5 circuitry totally off! Whomever did the work previously had no idea what was going on with it and just connected stuff like it was not going to matter. Ha! Went to Riders from the 1938 manual to see the Grunow model 564 schematic up close because on Bryan's cell it is overtly maxed out and pixelated. They have a well drawn chassis diagrams and schematic there. BTW it has a very nice cabinet design too. The 6K6 tube didn't come out until a little after this radio was made. Great resurrection Bryan but maybe an across the line cap is necessary on the power transformer and a fuse after the power switch. The cheap Chinesium tube sockets also get loose after putting a tube into it over time. They are crap!

Them old tube radios sound good but they are not high end McIntosh tube amps and like you say audio grade components are not necessary.

Hey RTPN, quick question… I just picked up a Dynex 20” CRT from 2008. When I turn it on, the green LED light goes on, I hear two clicks and noise inside the set, however there’s no high voltage and no raster, it just stays a black screen… what is likely a common culprit??
@radiotvphononut3 күн бұрын
Probably a shorted horizontal output transistor or a power supply that isn't regulating and causing the set to go into shutdown.

Great repair Job! Now please do not be to hard on the last radio repairman that worked on this radio. Sometime Schematics are hard to find for these old radios. Nostalgia Air is a good place to look..but they do not have all of them. Sometimes you have to pay 15.00 for a Schematic on line. Some people might not have access to a computer or it is down. A lot of times you can ..Wing it....and get it working with out a Schematic. I have fixed postwar radios... Zenith Cobra arm record players ... transister radios...8 track players...and never used a Schematic for any of them and they still play great to this day! I just restored a 1949 Coca Cola radio over Christmas...no Schematic..I didn't need one and it plays great! Yes get a Schematic whenever possible...but sometimes they are hard to find and even if you get hold of one the print on some values for the components are hard or impossible to read.
