I think you might be right about Drogo not helping Dany at first, and her not having full control over him yet. And that's what Tyrion is for, anyways! I think his knowledge of dragons will be one of his biggest assets to Dany

Top notch podcast as always. You guys are a breath of fresh air. You have great attitudes and your love for the story is obvious in your commitment to resisting the temptation to paint over the details of the story's dilemmas and mysteries with broad strokes. There's no doubt that Dany's story is written with so much pathos that it initially seems unthinkable that Martin's intentions with her story could majorly run contrary to sympathetic. However I detect in you a recognition that the existence of many of the initially-easy-to-gloss-over dilemmas posed in Dany's story cast the author's intentions with Dany under a considerable and growing shadow of doubt. It seems to me that Martin's ability to surprise us so well stems significantly from his understanding of his audience and the attitudes that shape our perceptions. For example, your use of the word chattel to describe Dany's position at the beginning of the story may reflect an attitude that the audience mostly shares and that shapes our perceptions. Chattel means property, servant or slave. And if that truly is a fair description of Dany's position at the beginning of the story, then there is an alarmingly wide array of details in her first chapter that cast doubt upon that interpretation, such as the 19 servants and slaves who all serve Dany in some way, the chattering girl who tells Dany how lucky she is, and the many valuable gifts she receives as a consequence of the betrothal. The closer I look at ASOIAF, the more it appears to me that we the audience at large have mistaken it for a No Woman's Land story when it is moreso subverting our perhaps predictable attitude that it is a No Woman's Land story.

Daenerys sufferd from the lack of a maester education - no one explained to her how to use a weapon of mass impact to the best advantage: during the Dance, the dragons were used not only for dragon-on-dragon fighting, but as a deterrent as well, not to mention the use of said weapons by her earlier ancestors, like Aegon and Jahareys. Also, leaving the Shavepate, a Dzerdzinski of Mereen, in a popsition of power, does not bode well for the city.

@@sit-insforsithis1568 The stories of using them at war are still instructive. I learned a lot about pure evil of Communist ideology precisely from courses, mandated by Communists, like History of CPSU and Political Economics of Socialism. No reason dragon hating maesters writing histories would not convey useful information about use of dragons both as weapons and as a deterrent

What about the war for life itself? It seems Dany will at SOME point be confronted with the challenge of defending the realms of men before she can face those struggling to assert control over the realms of men. I'm a bit surprised you didn't broach this here.... but of course I only just recently found your channel so perhaps you've done it in another upload. Looks like I'll be busy binging and playing catch-up for a while.

Welcome aboard! The intent of the primer series is to refresh listeners on where we last saw each PoV and what we might expect to be happening in their arc early in TWoW. It’s a narrow focus, but you will find that we’ve covered many of the characters separately in the past, including Dany. For those we haven’t covered, or whose arcs have surpassed our prior coverage, we will absolutely one day have broader focused, individual episodes.

Excellent as ever! I just noticed that in the vision of the Dothraki crones it says "milk men will tremble in their stone tents". Arent the Quarthien called millk men by the Dothraki? Or am I misremembering? Also, Dany is at war with Quarth at the moment, so it would make sense.

Only Rhaegal and Viserion were chained under the pyramid. Drogon flew away and only returns when the fighting pit is reopened and senses mom's in danger and they fly away.

If Dany gets left by drogon, taken back to Vaes Dothrak, becomes the stallion that mounts the world, heads back to Meereen with a massive khalasar to sort the city out which is on the verge of having some seriously crazy stuff go down, meet Tyrion, reunite with Jorah, deal with The ironborn and the dragon binder horn, deal with the remaining cities in slaver bay, deal with Hizdar and the dornish and everything else she won’t be making it back to Westeros until halfway through a dream of spring. That’s way too much stuff to sort out in one book especially considering the full book isn’t even devoted to Dany. That is too much stuff to cover in 10 chapters. I would have to imagine Dany making her way to Westeros in TWOW, there is too much to cover and too many things that need to come together for her to arrive in Westeros halfway through the final book. Unless GRRM is planning on adding yet another book to ASOIAF I see Dany wrapping up in Meereen fairly quickly in order for her to get back to Westeros.

I think Vaes Dothrak is where Dany will turn into a religious figure. So her desire to put in place certain social and political norms coupled with religious messianism will give us a good idea of her future, one pushing towards fascism. But what will be the alternative? An all-seeing all-knowing Bran using "truths" to deprive people of their agency would be akin to another dystopian rule. I think the show didn't finish the story, D&D didn't want to go on, so they just ended it there. George's story probably does not end with Bran as king, at least not as "The Three-Eyed Crow".

Bran on the throne fells odd to me. I cant get the idea of, psycho guy who knows everything, sitting on the throne and rule any kingdom. Bran with his superpowers will play the role against "others" but iron throne is a plot of Daenerys and Jon in the end
@nononono3421
@nononono3421 3 жыл бұрын
@@michal22011 So first, I think Mance will tell Jon he is his father. True or not, the impact will be to tie Jon's support to the free folk permanently, and make Jon king of Winterfell while securing the protection of the free folk south of the wall. Mance being Jon's father works (can't go in details here, but the clues hold up), but it can also be a lie. Much later, near the end of the story, Bran would reveal to Jon or to Sam who'd speak to Jon that Jon is R+L's son (remember in the show Sam only knows of the wedding, it's Bran who then says Jon is R+L's son). True or not, once again Jon's parentage would be used to control him, leading to Jon killing Daenerys (although I believe Jorah is the one who does it with Heartsbane, with Jon being unable to bring himself to do so). Tyrion had told Jon to assume his bastardry, wear it as armor, so no one could use it to hurt him. Mance and Bran will possibly use it to control him. And we may never find the truth. But yeah, I think the story doesn't end there, it ends with the death of "The Three-Eyed Crow" and magic. D&D just gave up.
