I love this album. I've been a fan for 16 years. They can drastically change their sound, but still manage to stay true to themselves and artistically push boundaries. Alex's struggle with celebrity and the band's massive fame is interesting. I think a lot of fans just listen to AM or early albums for the rock n roll factor & don't bother listening and deciphering his lyricism on the less mainstream albums.

Yes! I absolutely love their rock and roll but I love how they don’t feel the need to be mainstream and just do their own thing. I don't know if it's also a direct reference to this Tread Softly Stranger movie when they talk about Hello You, but in The Jeweller's Hands (Humbug's final track) Alex says this exact sentence "Tread softly, stranger, move over towards the danger that you seek" , and maybe this is the 'other song' Alex says he mentioned it before. Alex doesn't spontaneously talk abt his lyric writing process v extensively but then again we get to know specific references and reasonings behind said references that makes us rly curious if there's in fact a personal meaning to bits we don't quite understand in his more recent songs (TBHC - The Car, particularly, I'd say)
