Радо иде Србин у војнике
где зелене бере ловорике.
Борба њему забава је драга,
још милије саломити врага.
Јер пушчани прах
не задаје њему страх.
Њега на бој мати
и невеста прати.
Отац жели, седи,
да врага победи.
Напред иде с оружаном Србин руком,
а зимзелен вије му се за клобуком.
Пева, кличе српски син,
пред њим стрепи душманин.
Пушка пуца а топови ричу
а јунаци оружани кличу:
"'Ајте, Срби, 'ајте у војнике
где се купе отаџбине дике."
Кивни гази враг
нашег дома мили праг.
На бојноме пољу
где с' јунаци кољу,
славе бер'те цвеће
што увенут' неће.
Док се наша миче снажна десна рука,
пропануће црни душман триста лука.
Кад зажели свети краљ,
уз пут скаче Срб, витез!

Gladly does the Serb become a soldier
which gathers laurel wreaths.
Combat is his dear amusement
which is greater when crushing the devil.
Because gunpowder
he does not fear. (x 2)
To battle his mother
and bride follow him.
Father sits and wishes
that he defeats the devil.
Forward goes the Serb armed,
while the wreath flutters on his hat.
The Serb son sings and cheers,
the enemy trembles before him.
The gun fires and the cannons roar
and armed heroes cheer:
"Come, Serbs, come to arms,
come where the pride of the fatherland gathers."
The rancorous devil treads
upon the threshold of our home.
On the field of battle,
where the heroes slaughter one another,
pick the flowers of glory
which will never wither.
While our right hand swings,
the enemy will use up his weapons.
When the holy king demands it,
the knightly Serb will come.

Actually Josif Runjanin didn't compose this song. I originally thought he composed it too because everywhere you look on the internet his name is associated with it. I think it has something to do with an old Wikipedia article with some incorrect information in it. This article contained a line about him composing "Rado ide Srbin u vojnike" and stayed for years with absolutely no citation. Most people reading it (myself included) probably thought that it was common knowledge that he composed the tune and didn't bother to look further for corroborating evidence. But the truth is that the music was composed by Nikola Đurković (1812-1875) of Pančevo, based in part on an older instrumental march called "Barona Jovića marš" by Antonije Jahimek (actually a paraphrase of folk melodies). It was later popularized by Kornelije Stanković who composed a well known arrangement of the song.

So Runjanin had nothing to do with this song? Interesting... That changes the whole perspective. If that is so, Wikipedia really did cause vast desinformation...

National Channel I just checked the history of the Wikipedia article about Runjanin and discovered that the sentence about him composing "Rado ide Srbin u Vojnike" was there for 9 years without even one citation. Then they added citations from articles that obviously used Wikipedia as their main source. This is how history is rewritten... Anyway, I had them remove the questionable text from the American, Serbian, and Croatian Wikipedia sites. So far nobody has objected....
