radon - RAVEYARD [Complextro/Electro]

My kinda-spoopy (maybe like 25% spooky, mostly vibe-y) thing for the NG Halloween Spooktacular 2024. Having it feel full on spooky was never my purpose when making this track, so if it doesn't feel very spooky, then that's intentional (So many spoopies and spookies in so few sentences. This really is October). Track breakdown and usage policy is below:
TRACK BREAKDOWN:
128 BPM high energy Complextro/Electro hybrid written in D# minor. For some reason, I now have some sort of an addiction to making house-y stuff now. I've been corrupted lmao (but I'm definitely going back to trance centered stuff after this). I'd like to think that this is very different from how I usually make my songs, since at times, it takes on more of an orchestral tone, and most of the time, it's just full on electronic.
Uses the EXACT SAME chord progressions from my songs "Supernatural Stampede," and "Return" (Second time I've taken the chord progression from Return. Damn. I think I did a good job on that one, eh?) but in reverse order for the former. Which begs the question: Would it be considered theft if I stole from myself? Idk. So chord wise, mostly unoriginal, but melody wise, somewhat inspired by 2010s EDM. This probably has some of my favorite melodies ngl. Also, the chord progressions might become stale, so that's why I incorporated more variety into the melodies, rather than the chords.
I also took some inspo from "Binary", which was made by osmium and myself. The inspiration in question was mainly taking into account how each section of the song is laid out. Only differences are I have a calmer intro that progresses into the complextro nitty-gritty shit. I also have a cooldown into a predrop after my first drop. Additionally, this is a longer song, and I made all of this, rather than 2 people. So yeah. Most pieces of inspiration for this piece come from projects made by myself or ones which I contributed to. Wow. Never thought I'd see the day.
Also, nothing in this song is 100% perfect, so feedback on what could be changed would be appreciated in the comments is appreciated. As always, happy listening.
USAGE POLICY:
For general usage, honestly, use this for whatever you want. I generally don't really care (if what you're using it for involves anything sexually suggestive though, then consider this off limits). As long as you give credit to me and you link this song to your work, or however that thing goes. I'd like to see what you'll come up with, if you do come up with anything. Good luck finding a use for it, if you decide to use this song.

I was surprised to read in your desc that NG had such a strong music culture. I'm stuck in the 2000s with Justice and The Bloody Beetroots with their MySpace profiles and stuff, didn't really think anything like that existed in the current day and age :) I'll check it out. Also, really fun and a great track! It reminds me a bit of Evil Lurks from Wolfgang Gartner. Focus on Mixing I'd say. Composition you got down to a T I believe. The whole thing flows really nicely. I feel like, especially for this kind of track, the drums deserve just a tad more presence. Especially at the start :) - Everything else seems fine honestly :) A lot of it is personal preference and subjective. It's a cool track!

A DETAILED REVIEW ON YT? Never thought I'd see the day (if you can't tell, I love these long nuanced reviews that actually address my points of growth). People read the description? Shocker. But yeah, NG's still around, and alive and kicking. I'll definitely check out this "Evil Lurks" song, cause it sounds cool asf. Yeah tbh, mixing is kind of my weak point at the moment. Worried that something would be iffy with it. Funny thing, my fear was the drums at the start would be too overpowering to the buildup, but ykw, you might have a point. Bit too quiet. Another funny thing was, on discord, I was told by someone else that the low end was a bit too loud, which completely contradicts this criticism. Now I'm DEFINITELY realizing you might be right. Will tweak drum volume and compression, update the submission on NG, and let you know when those changes are made. Won't reupload this vid though bc let's be real, that's too much effort LMAO. Thanks for the review man! Been waiting for one of these for idk how long.

@@radon_16 No problem!! Always fun to meet someone else starting out in music! I'm still on GarageBand iOS, but honestly, I like it lol. I was thinking of upgrading to logic, but I'm enjoying the GB workflow. And it's not limiting at all :) - I watch a lot of videos from Dan Worrall, he's a seasoned pro and goes over general sound engineering and stuff. I've learned loads from him over the years. It might be too advanced sometimes but the past year has been a learning curve for me with learning how to mix and stuff. And I would credit him a lot for that. Again mixing is very subjective and down to the individual. I could be "wrong" in a sense! It's down to how you think it sounds. What helps for me is that I often compare my mixes to a song I love and see how the volume levels in my track compare with my reference track 🤌🏻
