According to the EPA, we live in an area of RI with moderate RADON infiltration. When we bought the house 20 years ago, the RADON test showed negligible results. We had an oil burning furnace and hot water tank that routinely exhausted air from the utility basement up the chimney. We also had various exhaust fans running during the warmer seasons to pull air through the house. We also had a lot of spiders in the ceilings of the basement. Last year, we completed making out home carbon neutral and removed all the oil burning devices and sealed up the holes in the chimney. Our home is sealed; a new whole-home HVAC system allowed us to keep the windows closed. Air does not circulated. I am growing concerned about RADON accumulating now with these changes to our home. In recent months, we have had a lot of rain and snow, and the ground water tables have risen, meaning that the any air-gap under our foundation is getting compressed. Our sump pump has kicked on several times this season (normally quiet). I also noticed that we have not so many spiders this winter. I bought one of these monitors to install in the utility basement of our home (near the open-pit sump pump). I fully expect that we will have strong readings, but this is my first and long-term step. If the monitor shows consistent high readings, then I'll proceed with contacting a contractor to install mitigation means in the basement.

Thanks for sharing. I just gotten one for my home. I set it up just now. I am wondering if I leave the device in my basement I should be able to read the data from the device display time to time. My phone’s Bluetooth connection with it would not hold as I move up to first and second floors leaving the device in the basement, but I should be able to connect to it as I go down once in a while. Please suggest me if I make any sense. Also, right now, the display shows no number, but 4 dashes like (- - - -). I guess that’s because the device hasn’t been active more than 10 minutes or an hour for it’s first data entry. I am not sure my assumption is correct though!

Hi, yes you are correct. Even though your not in range your unit will still collect data. When you get in range and refresh it will show all your data.
