I wish I could go back in time and never had bought or played the game. I understand that you don’t want to feel like you wasted you’re money, but this game was a huge let down. It felt clunky, the controls were awful, the graphics were awful, the animations were awful, the missions were awful, it has less trick options and less trick variations, it had no off board controls, it had no unique special moves, the entire game was pretty much awful and felt rushed.

As good as 1 and 2 remake is, I’m sick to death of Pro Skater 1 and 2 constantly getting remakes and ports of their levels. Even 3 has gotten quite a bit of love. Any of the original levels from the PS2 era from Pro Skater 4 to the PS3 era with Proving Grounds are only playable on those games. Would love to see New Jersey, Manhattan or do the Mctwist over the Helicopter in HD or see the complete Skate Ranch in HD from American Wasteland.

I am glad I cancelled my preorder back then because I was really woried when I've noticed it's made by Robomodo aka LJN of the late 2000's. I've never touched the game. I actually had fun making parks in this game and sharing them online. :P The custom park layouts are not just empty lots, but instead have similar structures to some levels in career mode, so they have some built-in skateable objects. It was like making the career mode levels your own, and I thought it was an interesting change of pace for create-a-park, albeit limited compared to making parks in most of the other games (though I must mention you can create missions like in THUG 1 & 2).

Your review was pretty much my exact feelings as a fan of skateboarding games. I can usually find something about them I like with the exception of this and Simpsons Skateboarding. I really wanted to like Tony Hawk 5, but the weird disconnect of everything from controls to any type of a story left it feeling bare and broken. 2X is one of my favorite Xbox games and the extra levels were a cool addition. As a PS4 owner, I really wish there were more skateboarding games or stuff like 2X on it.

Two things: 1. Post-patch, you can toggle whether you want slam to be a single or double tap of the grind button in the options menu (though it honestly should’ve been there from the beginning). 2. I believe the primary reason for all the loading is the levels are modeled as finite state machines; this means that in order to change anything in a map, the game has to dump everything out of RAM, reload the base state of the map, then apply a state transition in order to create a specific state. This is the most quick and dirty way of making a functional loader, and most likely a result of the game’s rushed development. Awesome video, the best review of this game I’ve seen.

I've watched dozens of videos about THPS5, and I still get surprised by how badly they screwed up. I've seen you talk about the 360 flip animations on THUG, but there's actually an alternative way of doing then, which looks a bit smoother. So instead of inputting [Ollie > Flip > Flip], you do a [Flip > Ollie > Flip] instead, it is harder to pull off, but it looks much better than cutting a varial animation halfway through. This works for any Double Tap trick. The new mobile Tony Hawk game is just another Reskin of Skateboard Party, pretty meh, and controlling the game on a touchscreen doesn't help either.

The crazy thing here is, for how bad Tomy Hawk 5 is, it is actually the complete blueprint for creating probably the greatest Tony Hawk game. The exploding head thing is a brilliant idea, just terribly implemented here. The getting bigger or getting smaller power up is also brilliant idea for getting to secret areas and if you fail at making it to the secret areas, you get really funny fails. For example, using the mini power up to get through a pipe but if you don't make it out the pipe, you regrow and crush yourself. Just take the stomp mechanic out. Make the areas open world and different mpcs in the area hold different objectives and different areas of the city unlock after doing enough objectives. The manual speed up panels was also a very good idea.

I literally bought this a week ago. I checked your channel for a review and I didn’t see one (although I think I vaguely remember you mentioning in a different that most people didn’t like it). I wish I had waited another week to buy the game! I unlocked the 2nd level (the beach level) the same day I bought it and haven’t played it since.

I remember when this came out and I was so excited and then just read everywhere to avoid it so I did and now 1+2 is out and it's literally one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played

How awesome would I’d be if they made another (better) underground. The first underground was my absolute favourite- it had an awesome story and played very good

Man did this game ruin the whole entire series. I was hyped when it was announced. But then when it delievered, I didn't expect it to be this bad... I played THPS1-Proving Ground in my childhood...

I remember buying it when it came out, played it for 5 minutes, took the disk out snapped it in half.

I saw your video, and i wanted to play anyway, i bought a very hard to find ps3 copy in my region and oh dear, is much worse than i thought would be, a very sad game.
