You'll find them hiding here. Easy way to catch monster Sheepshead. This is my favorite time of year to target this specie of fish. The reason is because most of the year Sheepshead are loners, just hanging out individually around pilings. You might see one, two or three of them on the same piling, but when it's getting close to spawning time they start swimming together in large schools. That's what is happening right now and these schools of big Sheepshead are hiding under the docks which makes them simple to catch when they are feeding.

Can you fix this in my mind. Cause I don't know what Im doing. Does the fish usually suck the bait into his mouth whole or does it nibble it into his mouth? When you feel a tug on the bait, can you assume the bait and hook is inside his mouth and then you just jerk it to set it? I think Im just too technical with fishing. Im trying to undersand how to set the hook and when to set the hook. Then on circle hooks and live shrimp Im just catching trash fish....salt catfish mainly. If I say catch a Ladyfish or JackCreel can I create chunk bait pieces and fish that? I heard that catfish wont go for that tougher meat as much. Im on the Treasure Coast. You make it look so easy.

With Sheepshead you might feel a very mild tap tap, just let them eat it and when you feel a heaviness on the end of the line set the hook.

I enjoyed your video. Sheepshead is one of my favorites in SE Louisiana this time of year. I brought home 6 sheepshead Friday ranging from 17 to 22 inches. We use similar hooks - just checked and mine are the Owner cutting point SSW octopus with that offset eye! I prefer the 2/0 size and typically have 1/0 and 3/0 ready. I love fishing them with live shrimp, but with the cold weather recently in SE Louisiana (water temps ranging 49 to 55 degrees) only frozen shrimp have been available. Sheepshead is often overlooked in Louisiana for it's value for table fare - not by me, though! Good luck - I'll be watching!

We catch 40s to 50 inch + bull reds on the average some bigger 5 years back I caught a 60 + red on big sailors choice for bait. Its dam near impossible to catch a slot red in Haulover canal you have to go into mosquito Lagoon for slot fish and even if you have to throw them back its still a ton of fun to battle one in on small rigs. I have a 47 inch mounted on my wall and a 36 inch my wife caught... In Louisiana and South Carolina your allowed to keep one over slot and you can buy a 1-day fishing license over the internet as long as you have those license take it to the taxidermist they will mount it for you ... a good trick is to cut the tail half way off fin only so it wont move as fast big red are a lil slow and cut top fin off just at scale line to release oils out it will attract big reds... your welcome lol . Happy fishing

Got any tips? So i found this nice spot that i went to twice (near new pass) that is loaded with sheepshead and i see some black drum in there too. First time i went i could only manage to get a drum and a large pin fish, Second visit (earlier today) the fish are still there, but they are just not biting. I tried savage gear crab lure, live shrimp, slam shady lure. No luck!. i feel like i should move on but its hard when you can pretty much see so many fish in one spot so i keep trying... What do you suggest?
