Machine Learning Course - Lesson 13: Roundness Feature

To improve the accuracy of our machine learning classifier, we'll implement another feature where we measure how round a shape is. We do this by first computing the convex hull, then measuring its roundness by first calculating its length and area and comparing it with the area of a circle of the same length. Then, we add this feature to create a 4 dimensional feature vector and use the KNN classifier using the Euclidean distance.

How about comparing the closeness of the circles constructed from the 3 closest points to the center of the hull and 3 farthest points? Wouldn't this be another measure of roundness? The center in this case is the average of x and y coordinates of the hull points ... for simplicity.

Yes, it does sound like another measure for roundness. It would work similarly, I think :-)

Hey Radu, great job as always :) I was wondering if i could follow this ml course from the beggining but only using python instead of JS. Do you think thats reasonably possible? If not, which parts in particular would you say i def have to use JS?

I teach a version of this in python at work, so you shouldn't have any problems. But the UI things I implement using JavaScript are much nicer, in my opinion. While python has many nice libraries for charts and ML, it's hard to customize them exactly the way you want.
