Their relationship didn’t work because Rae didn’t love herself. You have to love yourself before you can except love from someone else. She pushed him away because she was so self conscious instead of excepting the fact that he loved her. In my opinion she should’ve not pushed him away and worried less and enjoyed the time they had because I think it would’ve worked out better that way but she couldn’t do that because she hadn’t excepted that she was beautiful and someone loves her. Loving yourself should be promoted, within reason(aka don’t accept terrible things about yourself as a form of “self-love”) But it’s true that people who dislike themselves will subconsciously seek validation from others and in many cases, those are not in healthy ways and create toxic relationships. So, it’s not toxic to tell people to learn to love themselves before seeking out love from others romantically. And there is a difference because loving yourself and being completely happy with yourself overall, which I think might be what you were thinking due to calling it toxic

Maybe this is a very unpopular opinion but Rae does not deserve Finn. Not because he's as fit as they come, but because he is such a gentle and caring person and she treats him like absolute crap. I get that she has issues but who the bloody hell doesn't? I loved this show so much but they totally ruined the last season for me! It was all over the place and ended up just like any other teen/young adult show that so many people hate! Finn was never the kind to act the way he did in the last season, it just wasn't him so ti felt odd! They messed up his character that we all loved so much! With that said, this show is unique and the characters were so relatable and funny! A must watch for sure! Would love to see the magic of the first couple of seasons again though! I think their whole aim was to take him off the pedestal we all had him on. So they did put some stuff in there for him that were off. And they also ultimately wanted him and her to separate because they wanted to send the message that she could/should save herself and be independent and strong all on her own. So they had to create a plot that would lead to a breakup. It really could have been done much differently, though. I agree that he did act a bit out of character. And overall yeah season 3 could have been better. :/

Ahh, the memories. This was my show, I tuned in because of Rae and then Finn came out of nowhere and wretched me, their relationship had me melting. The way Finn loved Rae for who she was, was just so beautiful. I had never seen that before and now I just watch kdrama's which has about the same amount of fluffiness as this. i feel like the problem with this relationship is rae focused too much on the superficial and what she saw on the surface with finn which attracted her to him bc of his looks only and barely focused on his personality while finn actually liked rae for her looks AND personality but over time as the relationship became more strained with rae’s unreadiness bc of her mental health and finn in the end trying to force it to work but eventually became what rae was doing destroying the relationship completely sleeping with another woman who was everything rae had built up all her insecurities around wanting to be for finn.
