RAF Chinook delivering chalk to the Bulford Kiwi, Salisbury Plain. The Kiwi is a chalk figure cut by New Zealand troops waiting to return home in 1919. The Kiwi is now a scheduled monument and needs to be re-chalked now and then to keep it in good condition. Video copyright Defence Infrastructure Organisation 2018.

It allways amazes me when I see a Chinook hover like this...likes it's on a invisible piece of string...the way the aircrew can just place it wherever they like as it bobbs up and down in the air .fantastic teamwork and skill required to make it look that easy..and obviously countless flying hours practicing to.

Idk what branch or what nation this is but I have a huge amount of respect for chopper pilots. Getting a moving resupply on ship while in the harsh waters of the Indian Ocean was an amazing thing to watch. To keep a chopper dangling supplies like in this video, but while matching the forward speed of the ship yet still maintaining a steady hover... while in rough seas... it really is an amazing thing to watch. Respect to pilots man, your job is so technical it's insane. Edit: I had to watch long enough to see this was England. I met some Royal Marines🇬🇧 during my time in the US Marines.🇺🇸 RESPECT!

You'd have to be a very patient person to pilot like that. Wow. I didn't even notice the crew on the ground until they started to move! Very cool that the helicopter landed to pick someone up. That must be exhilarating to experience!

Seems odd going way out of the way to approach the aircraft. But they're doing exactly what they're supposed to do. If you're catching a flight on a Chinook riding in the cargo bay, You always always always approach it directly from the rear. Not necessarily because of danger from the rotors, but those turbines below the rear rotor head are hot enough to melt your face off. Even up to 50 feet away!!!

I had to come back again to take another look at the smooth controls the Pilot makes during his approach to slow flight to hovering the CH-47 Chinook. This is the best of the Best heavy -lifting Helio ever made for the Military Branches .when I hear these coming over work place and the alsum sounds of three just makes me fill safe knowing that Military Aviation is here to stay . nope .. a bit more in reserve ,,, like another six tons , although the pilots prefer to under hang ten tons . then ten tons for the aircraft leaves a fair margin for altitudes and temperature . there are a few variations depending on model versions and the likes , thats just a quick down and dirty count twenty tons total . the other thing to remember is that for the twenty tons to stay in the air , there is now twenty tons of down draught. that can make a mess of tiled roofs.
