RAF East Kirkby and the USAF 1954 - 1958.

The distinguished wartime history of RAF East Kirkby is well documented.
This video focuses on perhaps the lesser known role the airfield played in the early stages of the 'Cold War' with the presence of the United States Air Force and in particular, Strategic Air Command (SAC).
Photo Credits: Imagery of the Base's facilities as taken from the 1957 edition of the SAC Handbook is of poor grainy quality. I have included a few contemporary photos of USAF personnel on a 'March Past.' Please note that these images are not East Kirby related (sourced from RAF Sculthorpe/Lakenheath Yearbooks) and are used purely to supplement this feature but they are relevant to the stated time period.
