I was there as an ATC cadet on an Annual Camp, I was lucky enough to be sat in the control tower watching all the aircraft coming in for the display. I particularly remember the Constellation as it was ancient even back then. In the preceeding days a Starfighter had folded an undercarriage leg on landing and slid to an undignified stop. A mate of mine ( a Cadet) was sat in the runway control caravan at the time, ran with a fire extinguisher and beat the crash crew to the scene. He caught an almighty bollocking from the Sergeant in charge of the fire team but eventually went home clutching a "Well Done" certificate.

Fantastic film!! Back in 1958 3 teenagers from Aberdeen entered the Lossiemouth by sneaking under a fence at the north end, near the golf course. The main attraction was a "graveyard" of old RNAS aircraft. We recognised about 10 different types..Sea Vampires,Seafires,Sturgeons,Fireflies...can't remember them all. Then 2 Blue Land Rovers came from nowhere and with the help of dogs, they rounded us up.Their main concern was how we'd entered,so we showed them, then we were given a stern warning and were driven to the Main Gates.Glorious memories.

I did that back in 1956, my dad was a pilot in the SAR helicopters at Lossie. We didn't get caught though.

My Dad was serving at Lossiemouth at the time this was filmed, I was away in the RN, but I bet my little brother was there somewhere and loving it. Both my younger brothers joined Dad in the RAF. I had to be different an go to sea. But I spent many hours when home on leave, sat on the pillbox at the end of the runway watching the coming and goings of the wide variety of aircraft that flew in and out of Lossie.

You were different and joined the RN? Well done to you sir. The RAF were the absolute crap of the earth. The Fleet Air Arm were the dominant Air Force of UK and, the original operators of RNAS Lossiemouth. :-)

I was a corporal running one line line at the time, The German F104, at 5:39 took off and called an emergency, We heard the call and walked to the runway side of the line. The 104 landed hard and fast, and had no chance of stopping as he was still full of fuel. He tried to turn off the runway but was still travelling to fast, the nose undercarriage could not take it and snapped off, the nose hit the ground and his crash bar went and a big cloud of fuel came out fo the rear. The aircraft had been parked at the hangar next to one line, his drop tanks were specially adapted and were carrying bottles of whisky, when he hit the deck we could smell the fuel first then the whisky. They put aircraft back as in the photo at 5:39, you could still smell the whisky on the open day.

Crikey, seems like yesterday. I was there in 1977, and part of the Open Day car parking team!! I can remember the Constellation arriving a few days before the open day. I worked in the Photo Section at Lossiemouth, and was sent to VASS (Visiting Aircraft Servicing Flight) with a Photographer to take some ‘happy snaps’ for publicity. If I recall, the Station Commander Gp Capt Stuart-Paul was greeting the crew. I vaguely remember the CRO, Flt Lt Smith(?) also being present looking like Jimmy Edwards with his handlebar moustache. Thanks for the upload and the memory jog!

I would have been 5, in fact just weeks away from my 6th birthday when that was filmed and 11 years later would attend my first airshow at RAF Leuchars. Great video👍🏻

I went to that air display in the back of a Harrier Tbird! The aircrew wanted somebody to do the flight servicing and see off the GR3 for the display and I got the job. I remember thinking it was the only time I'd seen an aircraft out and observed its entire sortie! Sadly I don't seem to feature in the film, but thanks for the memories

Great collection of images. Spent some time at Lossie, and I think I flew in at least one of the aircraft shown. Even got an F4 from Woodbridge that got me started down this road :-)

I was an 18 year old SAC Rigger on 8 Squadron. The Reds were on our pan and we strapped the pilots in. They'd all had a liquid lunch up the Officers Mess. I definately caught a wiff of gin.

I definately was born in the wrong generation. Would have loved to seen that warning star and more. Now we get aircraft that are looking more like a set of darts. Thanks for sharing this video of amazing aircraft.

What the heck was that notice about the “iPhone generation”? I’m 17 and fully understand everything about the progression of technology, pretty much all of us do. Just because your boomer jokes makes it look like we don’t even understand books are there doesn’t mean anything. Tbh we probably know more than most of the other generations seeing as we literally grew up with it... It was kinda pointless to say that and it took away from the video in my opinion.

You have a valid point, I guess I am a Boomer and have my ways. I joined the Army at 17 been working 40 years and only 5 left till retirement. I hope your next 45 years will pay off for you as well

You’re offended by that and it spoiled the video for you! Goodness me, good luck with everything.
