It's fairly widely believed that there were disciplinary problems, but the official line is only that they were "moved to other roles" with no reason specified. There were only a few days to retrain on a modified 7-ship show before the season started and, unfortunately, it shows.

I wouldn't say it's particularly similar to 2019. Not that it changes much between years anyway. The main difference apart from the missing jets is that it's quite a bit shorter than usual as when they started losing pilots, they modified or abolished several manoeuvres, but didn't add any new ones. The resulting display is kind of like a mash-up of 2012, 2017 and 2021, except much more disjointed than usual.

It's fairly widely believed that there were disciplinary problems, but the official line is only that they were "moved to other roles" with no reason specified. If it was a budgetary matter (not that cutting two pilots would save very much, in the grand scheme of things) they would have been removed before pre-season training began, rather than just a few days before it finished. The whole show had to be substantially modified with very little practice time left, and unfortunately, it shows.
