It'll be interesting to see how that bung extension works out. There may be an issue with slow response or inaccurate response, but it may take some time for the auto-calibration feature to develop driveability issues. Keep a super-close eye on your knock sensor data (basically log it every time you drive), and if you start having hesitations or weird part-throttle response, it may be worthwhile sticking to that 1" recess you say Bosch recommends. That headliner looks freaking amazing in the T-bird! Super-clean and plush. I like it!

I’m late as hell to this party but that L shaped O2 sensor bung is going to cause some issues whether you actually know it or not. It’s going to create a dead chamber of exhaust at the tip of the sensor. I would use that straight 1” extension you have and you’ll get much more accurate reading while also protecting the tip of the sensor.

The Lightning Supercharger is designed for the larger truck engine bay and will be sticking out your hood a ridiculous amount since the throttle body is mounted above the case. Like it will work but look like something from the Junkyard Wars TV show. A 2.1L Kenne Bell would be your best route but I think thats too much $$$$ to spend on a car like this. If you wanted power then you should of started off with the Thunderbird SC.

I'm curious about what intake manifold you plan on using. I've seen kits that work for the cobra supercharger off of DOHC 4.6l from 03 and 04 cobras, but thought the 5.4l lightning had a different bolt pattern and dimensions and that there wasn't any intake manifolds that worked for that swap. Also there were 2 4.6l SOHC engines, the Romeo and the Windsor, and I believe the supercharger snout may not line up depending on which engine you have. I'll definitely follow along to see what you find though.

The Lightning supercharger probably won't fit under the T-Bird hood. The air inlet and throttle body sit on top the blower making it too tall for most cars. You need the version that came in the 03-04 Mustang Cobra where the inlet and TB sit beside the blower.

The old catalytic convertors on the T-bird probably aren't all that great, especially if they are original. I'd suggest looking for new ones online with higher flow or if you change the exhaust do one on each side for better flow (for California regulations). The old ones really kill the power. There's good 280k miles on mine, original to the vehicle, they finally plugged up a while back so I did a delete with 02 spacers. They were fine before the old engine blew the head-gaskets, there's a night and day difference with the new engine and no cats.

I hope you know those o2 adapters are for OE cars with no cats or to trick the OE ECU to think it's still good. In your case, your o2 in the fitting you made would work. Unless you just mounted it in a dumb place like Doug would 😂
