Everyone is acting as if McGregor was saying "if you throw a head kick and notice they lean back, turn it into an axe kick midway through" He was really saying "if you notice a guy leaning back on your head kicks, make the next kick an axe kick instead, he will lean back and eat the axe kick when he does" The one martial art I have a lot of experience in is Tae Kwon Do, and although one of the worst arts, you can 100% make an axe kick look like a head kick when you start to throw it, however, you cant change a head kick to an axe kick once you have already committed to it, the hip rotation is completely different for each move.

Tae qwon do is really useful for kicks, distance, flexibility and balance but I always say one particular discipline is not enough. Anthony pettis is the one guy that uses tae qwon do kicks really well.

I think Conor meant condition the reaction to the high kick then throw an axe kick once the opponent leans back thinking a high kick is coming. If he meant that he didn’t word it properly though
