Is Rafa's forehand technically speaking better in 2013 than in 2017-2023? He has a much more abbreviated take back since 2017, but his forehand was HUGE in 2013.

His forehand peaked in 2013. The form continued until the 2014 Australian Open. The only times when his forehand was as good as his 2013 season were 2008 season and the first 4 months of 2009 season. In 2013, however, he could actually hit his forehand on the rise. That was one of the key reasons why he had so much success on hard court, even against Djokovic. If you compare Rafa's forehand vs Federer at the 2014 Australian open semi to his forehand vs Federer at the 2017 Australian open final, there's no dispute. His forehand at the 2014 Australian open was almost twice as good.

Sounds like he's using a ball machine 0_o

most of the time he stays on his back foot.on both wings. not much weight transfer in forwarding motion. kind of tricky if you want to play offensive tennis. impressive wrist-elbow coordination on forehand. but staying on a back foot might be even the cause of the knee problem, because the constant pressure might be just too much.

Trying to determine how back from the baseline to play - looks like he's about 4-6 feet behind sometimes.....

+Rick Martin Nadal is just INSANELY talented not much of what he does is recommended for the average recreational player or even average pro.

You can't play so far behind the baseline vs club players 3.5-4.0, must are junk ballers and hit with no pace so it will feel like they're drop shotting you on every hit.
