They screwed up the marketing for this film. Cause of the way it was marketed, I assumed before it started that the commandos were the good guys, and as a young 5 year old kid I was confused all the way through. Great film overall tho.

I don't know why, they clearly revealed in the trailers that the Commandos were attacking the humans. But then again it is weird that they featured mostly the Commando elite and didn't put too much emphasis on the Gorgonites.

As a kid, I saw soldiers and monsters on the toy shelves and assumed the monsters were the villains. I collected them and played with them as such for like a year before finally seeing the movie and being baffled.

I remember watching this with my cousins and uncle back in '98 when it first came out in theaters. Today that same theater is nothing more than an abandoned old shack in an abandoned parking lot, slowly deteriorating. Yet everytime I drive by it the memories of this movie and the pinball machines inside the place come rushing back. I also remember watching the movie Apollo 13 there as a kid.... Either way this movie is an instant childhood CLASSIC...

I never saw this for some reason when I was a kid, but I do remember that it was a big thing among all the boys back in my elementary school. That's because they advertised and merchandised it out the wazoo! But now that I'm older, I'm gonna make it a point to give it a watch. After all, it's by the same man who directed the two "Gremlins" movies and I really enjoyed those.

Love this movie and always wanted a sequel when all the soldier toys get sent to be destroyed but escape to find the monsters who esxaped that are hiding on a small island in a camping park. Kids who are camping with parents need to help the toys fight the soldier toys.

I was expecting lots of lame 90's humor and bad effects, but the pop culture references were actually somewhat clever, there's plenty of that 80's Verhoeven-style cynical humor, and the dated 90's CG still works pretty well given that it's being applied to plastic toy characters. Plus, you gotta love the fact that the Commandos were all voiced by the original cast of the Dirty Dozen. They did a great job here. Gotta say though, fuck those Gorgonite things, they seriously brought the whole movie down. I get they were supposed to be in there as a plot twist, since they end up being the unlikely heroes, but every scene that featured them was totally cringe-inducing, what with their obnoxious lines and "wacky" antics. It was like watching a whole group of Jar Jar Binkses interact.

The special affects where amazing I love the damaged ones the most...it really gives the artist some fun to really make them look cool
