Recently I have been building the logs tracks in the forest . I have made one half the height of the mountain and so far it gets you all the way to the fertile lands by the little grouping of lean to's . Such a fun thing to do, the cannibals spawn and just run around like maniacs trying to figure out where the hell I am on the structure because on top of the first track I made a another platform the length of the original track. I will say placing them with cheats enabled is a billion times fast I'm not cutting 2000 pieces of wood.

The raft flickers in reality the same way minecraft far lands work: computers only have so many digits to store a decimal, when the number gets very big it leaves very little room for precision since when the numbers get too big, the lower digits are simply disgarded So at certain speed the unit digit is disgarded, since computers count in binary that means the smallest increase is either going to do nothing (round to zero) or increase the number by 2 (round to 1 on second last digit), basically your numbers either go up by 2 or nothing And it keeps getting worse as he gets faster, to the point where the steering wheel either goes left by a large unit, right by a large unit, or stay in place, instead of the usual smooth sway animation, and precision loss gets worse the faster he goes, thus why everything seemed to get wider progressively Eventually he can't stand on the raft anymore because the imprecision gets larger than the size of the floor, meaning the floor essentially doesn't exist anymore

The reason the models get messed up is because 3D engines use floating point numbers to represent coordinates in space. Normal integer values have a specific representable range, like 0-511 for example. It's trying to approximate a specific value into a 32/64 bit space, and as the number gets bigger, it loses precision, since it isn't exact. Losing a little precision isn't so bad, but when you lose too much, your models start to "crumple" like they do in the video, and eventually it loses so much that more weirdness occurs. Edit: this will happen in ANY 3D game if you go too far in one direction, that's just a natural consequence of how computers work.

Fun Fact: as you approach the speed of light the light that is coming towards you has it's wavelength shortened, similar to how a race care's engine noise sounds higher pitched as it approaches, the effect is called "Blue shift" so yeah Scientists already knew that the speed of light looked like a blue blur.
