You made me searching for more than an hour to find kritis , thillanaas and cine songs . My watch later list is growing . A very useful episode. Vaasanthi is a janya Raagam. Please , therefore, make a mention in the description about the Mela Karta Raagam . In this case it is 27 Sarasaangi . Thanks for this great initiative

I read now an interesting article in rajamanjari blogspot "ILaiyaraaja- The Persipicacious Musician " There is a mention about Thogai Ilamayil song. " What ILaiyaraaja has done here is something unique. The raga which has ‘sa ri2 ga3 pa dha1 ni3’ is a raga called TharaLam and is a janya of Sarasangi. "

I can see that you have totally jumped into this research now. Glad we could ignite that spark. When the boundaries are blurred, it is possible to interpret these songs from various angles. It's calling a colour as Green, Teal or a mixture of yellow and blue. Ilayaraja was indeed experimenting all the time but he let the listeners figure out his various innovations by themselves!

Lathangi has Madhyamam and nishaadam. Vaasanthi does not. Both ragas do have Shudh Daivatham. Adho mega has no nishaadam. ஆடாத மனமும் உண்டோ - மன்னாதி மன்னன், லதாங்கியில் அமைந்தது.
