'rally round the family with a pocket full of shells' hes referring to politicians(corporations) who claim to be pro family but yet support war. i like to call it a schizophrenic juxtaposition. how can you be pro family yet support something that tears families apart on both sides.

Shame on the empathy for families in less privileged nations with insurgents that murder, torture and rape innocent children and civilians. Let them spread throughout Asia next time. Curse the military-human compassion complex. You're supposed to be strong for your family just like you're supposed to be strong for your community, country and fellow man. It's not gallons of oils that's we're shooting at in Iraq in Afghanistan that are launching RPG's at us. What, are we supposed to leave their countries fucked and tell their soldiers and families asking us for help to fuck off? These leftists are saying these things with no mind as to the actual occurrences in the war zone, the enemy being fought, what they're doing. NO ONE knows how awful it is than the people fighting it with family to live for. And you notice how most of them don't share the leftists' point of view? The military industrial complex is there when it comes to war but it is far from everything about war, and the inhumanity and evil of the enemy is present, not a political disagreement. If leftists had their way in WW2 and Japan hadnt bombed our ships, they'd push back with even more veracity. Christians and Jews fixed their problem, to an extent, of world domination and mass violence, it's about time we do the same for Islam.

If you keep going down this hole with RATM, you'll see just about every song they do is political or about social issues. Zach (vocalist, songwriter) being from the Los Angeles area with Mexican/German/Irish parents. Tom Morello (guitarist, songwriter) being from Harlem with Kenyan/Italian/Irish parents ...they both had a lot of shit to write about. Morello graduated high school with honors and is also a Harvard grad. Dude is legit. RATM is legit. No filters. No bullshit.

As a 15 year old white kid in the 90’s.... the musical hooks drew me in, but a lot of the lyrics went over my head. Now revisiting Rage in 2020..... it’s insane how relevant they still are. Watching your videos is helping a long-time Rage fan to better understand what the f*ck they were actually taking about. Thank you 🙏🏼
@robertkleeman77254 жыл бұрын
Another awesome video. Even without the lyrics on hand, you capture a lot of what Zack spits. I love it. A few references explained (if someone already explained all of these, sorry): "Five-sided fistagon" = a pejorative for the Pentagon. "Weapons, not food, not homes, not shoes, not need just feed the war cannibal animal" = We can't take care of our own people, but we can bomb the shit out of third-world countries. "While arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells" = Why so many people miss or sleep on this line, I don't know. The U.S. makes weapons just as fast as it crowds prisons with people of color. That line hits hard now when our government can't properly manage a pandemic, but it has the military infrastructure to abduct protestors in unmarked cars. "Rally round the family with a pocket full of shells" = Politicians sell family values with their mouths but use their pocketbooks to finance a war agenda. The shells are bullets. "Bulls on Parade" = As many others have said, yeah, the cops/law enforcement are coming to get you. Overall this is about the military industrial complex, but you got there. I love the channel and your reactions. It's also important to know I didn't understand any of this when I first heard Rage as a child. I had to grow up and reach my mid-30s before I truly digested the truths Zack was spittin at all of us. We're all life-long learners.

The "bulls" in this song are in response to a term that Ronald Reagan used often about "turning the bulls loose" in regards to deregulation of the stock market & big business back in the 1980s. RATM is basically telling you what's happened while "the bulls" are parading around running things. There's a ton of deep meaning to almost every song. To the point that you would have to research what he meant back in the day. Now, there's a bunch of people you can find breaking songs down online, but they're not always right. There are a handful of old interviews with Zach & Tom where they explain the meanings of some songs.

Wonderfully brutal criticism of the military-industrial complex and the political manipulations involved therein. I think when say "They rally round the family. With a pocket full of shells" they're talking about politicians or leaders who always talk about how important family values are, but then have no problem with sending people to fight wars for profit. Bulls might be a reference to "bull markets" in the sense that certain countries like the US benefit financially from wars and the arms industry.

I was watching someone else's reaction & I think he hit the nail on the head as far as Zack repeating certain lines, that it is like you are at a protest & he is the leader saying what you should yell after him. Fun WWF Fact: (I saw your Testify reaction & you mentioned tge Dudley's) Stone Cold Steve Austin used Bulls on Parade as his example of what he wanted his entrance music to sound, now I don't think it sounds like it but this was the inspiration for his music & I am positive that HHH's My Time & DX's were inspired by Rage as well.
