When I first faced that EL Velkhana, I was so glad I kept track of the notes Red left behind. Every mistake was a severe one shot

@Grima the Fell Dragon yep, you complete the regular Elder's Lair and then that unlocks the hard mode Elder's Lair, where everything is the same except it hits a lot harder.

So I had gathered half of the notes and was exploring the den for more, when Navirou’s message pops up saying that the air is freezing and that velkhana must be close. My brain didn’t register that and continued on the path, even though the map clearly showed it was a dead end and had no chest. That’s what happens when you don’t listen to your talking cat gps.

Probably the most asked Question about Monster Hunter Stories 2 I've read. "How am I supposed to defeat the Velkhana in the Elders Lair? It one-shots me and it randomly changes its attacks?" and the answer was always "Just read the damn notes like the game tells you to." Also on my first run through the Lair I was so overpowered that I would have only needed like three notes to actually win the fight. I killed Velkhana in 7 Turns.^^

@@itsturniptime3699 I was level 64 with fully upgraded Grimclaw Tigrex and Bloodbath Diablos weapons when I pushed through the Elders Lair the first time. The only fight I actually lost once was the Gravios on the 7th floor since I couldn't deal enough damage with just a gunlance and Reverto constantly taunting that guy.

I accidentally started the velkhana fight with only half the notes lol. Thankfully I got lucky and it only did the tail-tech-tech after the first few turns, and I had specifically worked really hard on my glavenus cause it’s my favorite monster.

@@reagansido5823 Stuff like that happens all the time. Look at Alatreon in Iceborne. People complained about getting killed by Escaton Judgement and when you asked them what gear they were using it was almost always Teo/Rage Brachy armor and Rage Brachy weapon. Despite the NPCs telling you non-stop to use elemental weapons.

Previously I'd mused on how Velkhana, Namielle and Vaal Hazak can form a trio of elemental/status elder dragons utilizing the same skeletons as the example set by Kushala, Teostra and Chameleos (who is once again ignored :'( ) With that in mind, the question now is, if they too had a dynamic where the armor of one countered another dragon, how would you arrange it? Velkhana > Vaal > Namielle, or Namielle > Vaal > Velkhana?

I would say velk beats Vaal as it slows the effluvium so it cannot consume anything, Vaal beats nami as the water provides and electricity triggers more division of the effluvium and therefore more damage and nami beats velkhana as spraying warm water on freezing water causes it to shatter or melt and then that would conduct through velkhana

Very spiteful of that 5 turn Cephadrome, the first wall in the Elder's Lair for me. All of the other ones were so easy in comparison until I figured out leveling up my gear helps a ton

I found the third floor pretty the wall for me was the whole of the seventh floor, the second lot of ‘kill it in x turns” cost me a few days to get to the last one, and then a few more days to get past that one.

Reverto even makes the fight harder because he likes to use Taunt in this fight for some reason. You totally were overleveled

A variant/subspecies Brachydios that uses poison (or paralysis) would be pretty interesting Plus, for poison the color scheme could be switched where the slime is purple and the background is green (opposite regular brachy)

I think the first note might not be translated right, cause as far as I could tell that Velkhana always opened with Power Power Speed. The “opening powerful move” might be the cutscene attack.

Fought velkhana in the ssr den for online, totally kick my ass when it was dying and started spaming AOE attacks that you can't head to head.... then days later found an ssr den offline and just took his eggs HA!

I dunno I'm not really a fan of scripted fights (or fights that force you to use one specific strategy), one mistake and Velkhana will harshly punish you for not reading Red's notes. But I'm glad Velk got her own intro cutscene.
