As a note, I am pretty sure the KO-50 is fueled not by a seperate tank, but rather by the actual fuel in the helicopter. The pod that you showed contains the heater itself, and not the fuel for it.

see my post on how it is fueled
@johnhamilton12413 жыл бұрын
the KO-50 heater is fueled by the service tank which sits under and between the hydraulic panel and the AI-9V, APU. You must drain fuel from the drain tank via a petcock prior to operating, especially, if, starting on the ground

If you want real numbers then if you're starting in automatic mod, temperature knob must be on 30. And ignition light must turn off in 2 minutes since start. Also, if restarting KO-50 after moving it from auto to man mode you should wait for 10-15 minutes for the heater to cool down. For you guys that have fire in KO-50 section if you actually use this. And yes, this is really important thing if you fly in winter, you will freeze your ass of if you don't learn how to operate it xD

That's cool! Thanks for the info (and in your other comments as well, really nice to learn more. It's hard to find good info sometimes.) The biggest disappointment is that the heater doesn't do much in DCS other than blow smoke and make noise. This module doesn't model pilot comfort or most kinds of weather effects on the cockpit :(

@@vsTerminus tell me about it, I have 4 books with 4 different information some of which are mutually exclusive. That's the reason I went on youtube to try and find maybe some real examples. Worst thing it that booklet for games is written better than real one xD I actually enjoyed couple of your videos I've seen so far and they actually help me to remind myself of everything I learned over the ages. At least it's more fun than reading through the manuals.

I just love the fuel tanks on the Hip. It's like they had the whole helicopter designed and finished when some intern sticks his hand up and says "but where can we fit the tanks?" and all the designers just sit there going "...fuck how could we forget fuel? Just stick em on the side I guess it'll be fine"
@arthurvilain72703 жыл бұрын
It's not quite the reason, but it's not very far off either. The Mi-8 fuselage was largely based on the Mi-4. It got new engines and a redesigned front section. Mil engineers also wanted to increase both cabin space and fuel capacity. Adding new, larger fuel tanks on the outside was basically the way to accomplish both at the same time.

there is a thermometer right side of the cockpit. i remember the heater affecting it.

It is possible that it works, on the KF-17 the pilot can get a heatstroke (manifested as a blackout) and he also gets hypothermia( manifested as stick shake and breathing).
@vsTerminus4 жыл бұрын
The manual doesn't specify whether it has effects on the pilot and tbh I didn't try long enough to overheat. Guess I'll have to do that lol

@@vsTerminus ok, so we have a heater, do we have an AC as well? Or should we just be glad for the fan?

*JF-17. The picture turns b&w and then fades away when getting cold in the Jeff. So it is important to close the canopy fast and get the engine starting fast or you won't see anything. I guess this is programed in the module since I have not seen this effect on other aircraft.

I just noticed it makes smoke out the bottom when running.

The smoke out the bottom is how you identify a crew that cares :P

@@vsTerminus It's those little details that really bring a DCS module to life. But then they took the pilot model out of my A-10 and expected me to reward them for it by giving them another $10. Nope!!!

You forgot all about the samovar control subpanel! This is most important function of crew comfort and survival! Much like boiling vessel in British tanks crew will not work without hot tea.
