My late father was in the Rex cinema too. He told his side of stories before he passed away. It was his 1st week in UM. Stayed in the cinema for couple of days until the military/police came. It was heartbreaking moment knowing several beds in his rented home remain empty for several days, only to be known that these a week old housemates are no longer there as some of the family members came to collect their belongings. His wishes was that we do not go through that again. #LoveMalaysia

Fulfill your father's dying wish. Can you imagine the racial riots spread right down to Singapore...i was sent to the mortuary on duty waiting for the corpses to be delivered by the ambulance. Today, i am 75 years and May 13th is still fresh in mind every year.

I was at the Rex Theater that night with my two daughters and then wife. We were in the upstairs section. i got my daughters and then-wife under the seats, picked up a nearby Coke bottle and waited for them to charge with their machetes and bolo knives, but they chased the people on the ground floor out the front entrance and never came upstairs. We sat in the darkened theater until about 5 a.m. when the police escorted us to the police stations, where we sat in the parking lot for a few more hours before returning to our car and home. I was working for an international insurance company at the time. I've long thought the movie was 'Three Faces of Eve" and was surprised to see that Johann referred to it as "Rachel, Rachel," but in the old days they used to show two movies, so it is possible that both were playing that night. Both had Joanne Woodward as the lead actress.

its such a shame that not even our history books are teaching us abt this. Im a F4 student who thinks this massacre needs to be taught in schools to educate and alarm the new generations of ths particular historic event

Because most people tend to sweep it under the rug hoping that if they do NOT talk about it, the problem is going to magically disappear. Malaysians tend to that with issues we deem to 'sensitive'. Little do they know that TALKING about it is how we solve it. Good for you though for doing your own research. I'm using this video to educate my students.

You'll learn about it in Form 5, but judging from the time you wrote this comment, you probably have learned it. But still the topic is only mentioned or touched by the surface.

@@s21fluqmanafiq33 exactly! The history taught in schools is so shallow especially this one chapter where about communism. I thought it would emphasize more on the sufferings of the Chinese community but it barely just brushed it. Sad truly

@@yangfarha5858 Yes! I'm a big fan of history but when it comes to my text books I just yawn. The education ministry needs to do much more based on my experience as a lab rat of the new syllabus , our education system is a mess.

The lesson is simple, don't be influenced by politicians that plays with emotion and DON"T support politicians that play of race and religion card. What we want are politicians with capabilities to lead the country forward and prosper and to compete with the world and not among ourselves, no?

Shocking indeed for the older generations of the 50's and 60's 'racial feuds' still persists till today since 1965. The 'hidden gap' drifts further exposing only the tip of the iceberg. Everything looks calm and serene not withstanding the dangers coming from below. Well, the younger generations did not go through what the older generation had witnessed. A tense and unpredictable society. They always say, "out of something bad, something good must come!" Is it true? Wildest dream of 'a worst scenario'.

Why have the murderers and perpetrators of May 13 not brought to justice? Innocent people were killed. The politicians who lost were to blame. They spread false rumours that the non malays were going to take over the country.
