Oh Ragnar...
This is my piano arrangement of "the Vikings are told of Ragnar's Death". It's the main 4 bar medley which I lengthened and worked the harmony to include some chromaticsism and secondary dominants. I can't wait to play this on the violin one day. This conjunct air is perfect for the moping strings, whereas the piano lets it fall away somewhat, despite the octaves.
I watched the Vikings series with a French dub, and so when I hear Travis Fimmel's real English voice, it's quite strange. The French voice actor was exceptional and matches perfectly with Fimmel's energetic acting.
Ragnar's character is enchanting and I loved all parts of it (especially him with King Ecbert and Athelstan) except for when he was turned into a junkey for opium.
A side note on the series, Bjorn was a muscular idiot from the moment he stopped being a boy; all he could do was shout, fight and momentarily fall in love with women; and the character for Ivar fell through the floor once he became ruler of Kattegat and became an archetype of a despot and nothing more. Quite dissapointing after the father-son trip for Ragnar's death.
