I didn’t knew they already had they released outside of Korea! (The 4th jobs); I share a similar trajectory in the RO world, such a nice series you’ve started! Glad for that introductory video! I’ve played at other servers to check the classes while they were releasing, and every time I’ve returned to the game it was magical. It’s something that simply can’t be put into words. I have ao many great memories with this game and playing with friends. Hope your series goes strong! And glad you went for Thief! The Assassin was my main pick since my first play.

Someone once said you don't quit Ragnarok Online, you just AFK a loooong time. Yeah RO is that one game I just can't seem to quit playing. Been playing since 2003, moved to iRO in 2010. Funnily enough I avoided playing Rogue classes back in the day coz I thought Crusaders were cooler but today I main a Shadow Chaser. RO's not perfect and the game feels crude/antiquated in comparison to most MMOs but imo nothing compares to RO's wild west sandbox experience. Ha, ya right. I was playing during pandemic, saved up 300mil to buy a item, turned out it was a cloned item. and it disappeared after a patch. The customers service was condesending to me asking me if i accidentally trash the item when he should have just done his job and checked the logs. i was pissed and quit.

This game appeared right around the same time as .hack Sign and it was just something magical...it was the first time and probably the only time where anime and real life almost met...we never really had that feeling repeat again... This literally felt like I was playing out the anime of .hack sign with other players and dealing out with their dramas in real life while also fighting other monsters and leveling together

The most memorable moment of me in-game, is leveling in Glasthiem Underground Prison 1... it was intense... your party should stay in one spot, and members have their roles to play, healers ahud stay inside the spot, tanks would lure mobs and dps like hunter/wizards do the main dps... if you die without being redirected by a priest, it's gonna be a long trip back, or else have to beg or warp by priests 😂 those days were so much fun!

Renewal game mechanics are explained on the player-run info site IROWIKI which is for the official International RO game (IRO). Come back and see how the game has changed a lot. Some of the new areas have great stories such as the quest series for The Royal Banquet, Terra Gloria, and Illusion. Some of the new areas have amazing designs as RO artwork goes.

I’ve come to the conclusion that, the original RO won’t be dead UNLESS those LYTO leeches made a new game similar to Genshin right now. If not, the OG will still have a player on different servers either official or private one. Because the concept and the versatility are just too good for the sandbox type game. The idea was above their time really…. ❤

tbh, the best remake was Ragnarok Origins PC/Mobile. JUST THAT IT WAS EFFING P2W. Origins had the best modern anime-like graphics similarly to classic RO. mvp hunting was fun, GVG designs are INSANE GOOD. Fair mix between dungeons and field bosses hunting. JUST TOO MANY P2W FEATURES. THE REFINING IS INSANE P2W. Eternal Love is p2w, but not as heavy as origins, especially the first few years. the Gacha 1% ATK MATK deposit system broke the game progressively (imagine a whale with 200% bonus ATK AND MATK compared to f2p with say 30% by default). the woe and woc is fun as hell, but graphics not as nice as origins HOWEVER, eternal love is coming out with a much less P2W SERVER. ALTHOUGH you can buy zeny via real money, its impact is little af end game. They removed all other p2w features too, no gacha etc.

I pine for the days where people just "got" RO with it's party focus, grindy nature, but I'm most saddened by the fact that there hasn't really been a game that has tried to expand on what it put down. It is still very unique and there's nothing like it. If I had to describe RO it would be a Massive Atmospheric Diablo game, way different from the Ultima/Everquest descended MMOs that became the default. I was super excited for tree of savior but ultimately disappointed in what it became, just another soulless whaling expedition. The closest I've played to matching the atmosphere is FF14, but even that feels like you're stuck on a procedurally generated treadmill if you look for too long. There's just nothing that can compare to the handcrafted, Dungeon Master style experience early RO felt like.

My friend easily say "0.1% exp per minute is a lot", but what going on my mind was how much money I have to spend on voucher and pc rental to just get 1 level up (my friend is rich, so he probably didn't think it that way 😂). Are you sure it was free to play here in the states? Assuming you're from the states. iRO in the west was never free to play during closed beta. You had to send a check for $20 for 3 months of play. It only became free during the open beta in which progress from the closed beta copied over to open and then to the launch.

I still have my original closed beta disc and the release disc with the soundtrack. I don't remember paying for the closed beta, I just remember lying about my age because the NDA said you had to be over 18 and I was 16 in 2002. I know the open beta was free to pay.

After that the beta closed until the paid closed beta opened up for 01/2003 or so until like 06/2003 when it went open beta for like 2 months then finally opened pay to play. I played during the closed paid beta and into the free to play. Progress carried over from closed to f2p and then into p2p. I quit after they started charging monthly sub. I was too young and couldn’t afford it.

Imagine a 1-1 conversion of RO into a 3rd person action combat MMO (like PSO2:NGS styled combat) but in the latest graphics, cell shaded like Honkai/Genshin. Like 1-1 conversions with how the classes/levels are, and all the mobs, world, systems and everything that could be made into a sigle, open world or open-zoned world (again, like how PSO2:NGS does their zones, with seamless loads).

There was a spinoff title that played similarly for the Nintendo DS. There was also Ragnarok Tactics for the PSP and Ragnarok Odyssey Ace for the Vita and PS3. All a bit different, but yeah. It would have been nice for a console release of the MMORPG.

That's really sad to hear. I know the EU has had some terrible experience with playing the game. I believe you can still get the game through their download. I just cant remember if you need a VPN to play. Warpportal can be a pain.

Renewal is the biggest downfall of this game, i know an update are needed to keep players playing, but Renewal job damage put a lot of OG players off. like dying within 1 seconds is not what Ragnarok used to be. That is why private server who still uses classic mechanics are even more populated than officials servers, and i still play in the private server classic with > 600 active players during WoE

Ouch. I think that is a bit bleak. Yes, the game is not like it once was. But that doesn't mean you cannot have fun. Believe it or not, the additions to the game have been pretty steady. Gravity isnt perfect and they have a lot of missed steps from the past. I just think we can still enjoy the game.

RO used to be a good game, however it didnt improve itself like Nokia.. They should improve its engine (like dota from wc3 to their own engine), constantly balance the game (like dota and albion), maintain the nostalgic music, listen to the community. Instead, they focus on those auto questing auto botting in mobile RO, milking the mobile players with weapon of no limit/costume. It's still a top3 game in my heart, but not a playable game in 2023
