Hi Laura! I love your videos and have made several rugs following your methods. I'm considering making a denim crochet rug and I'm wondering if I should cut my strips for the "yarn" less than 2" since the fabric is quite heavy. Thank you!
@RagstoRugsbyLora2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Tina! Thank you so much!! Yep! As a general rule, "The lighter the fabric, the wider the strips. The heavier the fabric the narrower the strips!" Denim usually comes in 3 weights: light, medium & heavy. All are wonderful to use in our rugs!! I would recommend cutting heavy denim no more than 1 1/2" width. Possibly 1 - 1 1/4". You might practice on a few stitches before you cut it all to assure the best width for your crocheted rug. Thank you for reaching out!!

How would you do this on a rectangle rug?
@RagstoRugsbyLora2 жыл бұрын
That's a really good question Hollie! It CAN be done but it is a REAL challenge! I had a custom order once using jute. A very large 5x7' rectangular rug & she requested a scalloped border. No problem I thought! I had the rug crocheted in no time at all. And then I started on the border. It took FOREVER to get it done. I ended up adding stitches on the previous round to make it work. I then worked a V-Stitch directly on the corner, 2 single crochets on either side of the V-Stitch and then the scallop. It just didn't look right to have the scallop right on the corner so this way it sort up straddled the corner. Look really good once it was done! But honestly I won't ever do that again ... very challenging!

How many yards are there in a whole roll of fabric? Thanks so much!
@RagstoRugsbyLora2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Linda! Thank you for reaching out & asking! There are 6 yards on each roll. The equivalent of 6 yards of 44" wide bolt fabric if you were to buy it in the store!

Where do you get the big rolls of fabric?
@RagstoRugsbyLora2 жыл бұрын
Helllllo & Happy New Year! Thanks for asking! The rolls are 100% cotton - 6 yards on each & they are 2" wide. Perfect for your Amish Knot/Toothbrush rugs, your Twine Weaving Rugs & for your Crocheted or Braided rugs! And they are also bias cut (no threads!). You can find the Rolls HERE! >> www.ragstorugs-bylora.com/

Hi Lora love your channel. I just completed my first round rug. I’m thinking of adding the scalloped border how long should the strip be of the color I’m adding?
@RagstoRugsbyLora2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! I appreciate your reaching out! You will need to allow approximately 6' (72") of fabric strip to complete one scallop pattern. Count the number of stitches on the perimeter of your rug. Divide that number by 4 (the number of stitches in each scallop pattern) and multiply by 72" to assure you have enough fabric to complete the pattern all the way around your rug! Simply measure off your remaining fabric to determine if indeed you have enough. Let me know if that helps, okay?

Lora Love your videos! I wanted a rug about twice the size but it looks like a hexagon. Should I have made less increases after row 9 or 10?
@RagstoRugsbyLora Жыл бұрын
Good Morning & THANK YOU!! Can I ask, are you referring to a round rug or and oval one? I'll watch for your reply!
@jamiehaas1499 Жыл бұрын
A round one, thanks much, Lora
@RagstoRugsbyLora Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Curious .. are you finishing the pattern on each round before starting the next pattern? In other words, once you reach you marker, are you continuing on until the pattern for that round is completed? You might consider converting to "Crochet on Demand" for a few rounds to correct the "hexagon" look without removing any rows. Simply add stitches where needed rather than follow the pattern to ease it back to a round look. Once achieved, you can go back to the pattern. "Crochet on Demand": "If it feels like it's too far a reach to the next stitch without buckling your rug, you have a tension concern there. Add an additional stitch in that space (to relieve tension) and continue on. Continue with this method until your rug corrects itself & is back round again. Please let me know if this makes sense, okay? I'll check back with you!
@jamiehaas1499 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it makes perfect sense, thanks. But I'm going to have to year out a few rows because I'm at the 1sc row before scallops. Oh well.😢 can't wait to do those cute scallops😅

Hi Lora, I love your rugs! I just discovered your channel and I'm going to try making a rug! I'm wanting to use a plaid flannel sheet that I have but the back is very white. Is that ok? Or should i use a flannel that looks almost the same on both sides?
@RagstoRugsbyLora2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Tina! Thank you! So happy you found us! You can use BOTH! Of the two flannels, print (also known as piece-dyed) & yarn dyed, I prefer yarn dyed for the same reason you mentioned. I love working with fabrics where both sides are the same. Yarn dyed flannels are woven - each thread is individually dyed. Much like homespun fabrics but softer!! But print flannels are awesome too if you don't mind the white backside. Hope that helped! Keep in touch! And thank you for your order! I sent you an email. :)
