I love the video game but kind of felt like you did towards to board game. In fact, this is the first coverage I have watched on the board game because I really felt like the video game was all I needed. Now I want to pick up the board game!

Thank you for the video! I was hesitant to buy this as a gift after my first online watch of it. I doubted if it had replayability but decided to buy it. We had 5 gamers play. We thought we did well but our score was not that high. We started the campaign and unlocked a box. That is when my perspective of its replayability changed. We decided to play a 2nd time right away and unlocked something cool. I think it would also be good for families as young kids would probably enjoy turning over tiles and unlocking things. Thumbs up for me.

Glad you like. I bought on a whim at Gen Con because of the SdJ.

Played this with my wife and daughter and we had a great time with it, seems there is an expansion coming that adds even more plus a two player competitive mode, Not sure I'll get it though but will hold on to the original until I see how the expansion looks.

iirc the new thing coming is a standalone game called dorfromantik duel, and it's for 2p only and competitive, but you can also take the new content and add it to the original co-op game. that's how i understand it works anyway :)

We're 10 games in and we agree with you. The complexity and decision making ramps up so slowly that you forget how level one was so easy. We had a new player come in, so we reset the game, and while he thought about where to put the tile, our old group shared a look of realization of how far we had gone from level one.

I haven't tried this one yet, but I really cannot see liking it for one very odd reason. I played the heck out of the video game, mostly because of the relaxing music. It was the game I put on when I needed to boost my spirits after a rough day and that music was everything to me. I just can't see playing this game on my tabletop without that music. THE KEY to the amazing video game.

My hesitation comes from your last thoughts here, that there is no multiplayer dimension to the game. However, given its SdJ victory, I'm less hesitant now because I know that the game has successfully unlocked (couldn't help it) a future franchise for itself that will almost certainly have multiplayer permutations.

honestly, i thought i would HATE it because of the lack of true co-op interaction between players, but we ended up digging it anyway... the compelling "what are we going to unlock next" vibe plus the chill and laid back gameplay (a real departure for us) took it over the top for us. what's coming next is dorfromantik duel, which is a 2p only competitive version of the game, and iirc you can take the components from it and retroactively add them to the original game :)

5:00 yes bgg account members are so full of bs. Like saying oathsworn has no branching narrative, then you haven't read the storybooks - which are a-ma-zin-gly well done. If you still have the game, do yourself a favor and read the campaign books.

I love the game, but yes, it's a typical faux-operative game; it's a solo experience that pretends to be a cooperative game, but does nothing to promote the cooperative aspect beyond "we're solving this puzzle together". Which admittedly works adequately when players are approximately at the same skill level, but if that's not the case you either get extreme quarterbacking, or extreme frustration when new players continually sabotage carefully prepared combos. :)

OMG, was this a hint of honesty? Fair dinkum I always feel that your comments are "paid comments". You totally left me hanging on Steamfall. Told me it rocked and bought it. I struggle to understand that game. Big disappointment indeed.

i am always 100% honest on my channel, and the majority of the games i cover are not sponsored by publishers as all. sorry you didn't like steamfall... was there something in the runthrough itself where i demonstrated gameplay that mislead you in some way?

@@rahdo yes, it's completely difficult to play, even more so as I bought the " genisis" upgrade. I have no understanding of the game and struggle to comprehend how to play. I have watched all the KZbin video's but still cannot get a grip on the gameplay. I guess my biggest ask is that it seems like there's alot of civilians that appear when you follow the playthroughs on KZbin and get totally overwhelmed.
@rahdo

sorry to hear that. so did my runthrough somehow demonstrate the game incorrectly that made you think the game was something different than what it is? it's certainly a complex and heavy game which i've always been clear about. i'm just asking because if i somehow misrepresented the game, that's a worry for me and i'm always trying to look for problems like that to fix. i did go back and look at my videos for it, and i did warn audiences that the game was heavy and complex and analysis paralysis-inducing. i likened them to vital lacerda games (which are widely regarded as some of the heaviest board games in the industry). i literally ended my original runthrough saying "it can get crazy complex, even sometimes a little too complex". so again, sorry if i somehow misled you into think the game was something other than that, but i was trying to make clear the realities you now face.
