The origianl 'Macao' had such a good rep (as does Stephan Felt) that I backed the kickstarter for this but the price: Ouch!

Not owning the original Burgandy I jumped at the chance to get this. Can’t wait for it to ship, great run through.

hehe, i think you meant to post that to the burgundy runthrough, but heck, they're both felds so why not! :)

Do you need any help with the dutch texts on the cards? My native language is dutch.

thanks but i ultimately decided to stick with macao :)

@@rahdo Good old Macao! Years ago, I bought that game on an outlet sale for only 12 euro's ! And until now, it's my most played game from my collection.

this series of games has the worst iconography I've ever seen... oh my god. You'd need to check every card in the rulebook to understand what it does. Hard pass, I'll stick to Macao
@rahdo Жыл бұрын
hehe, even though i've got the text cards, i wanted to film with the icon cards to show how they're actually much better than most attempts at language independance. i'm hard pressed to think of a game this complex that does it better :)
@bushibayushi Жыл бұрын
Honestly? There's a point beyond which you DO NOT make a game language independant. Imagine GMT games trying to make Twilight Struggle based on icons.
@rahdo Жыл бұрын
yup, that would be too far. but variations on "turn X into Y" or "get X and you trigger Y" (which is the majority of what we have here) doesn't cross that line i think :)

This game is ok even if you need to check the language iconography because you just read out 4 or 5 cards at the start of each round (and then you know what they do after that). Hamburg however, that is awful. That is unplayable without the text on cards, because you have a hand of 5 and need to decide which to use and constantly getting more.

Iconography is more intuitive than I first expected, definitely not the worst ever imo. But it will probably take most a full play to internalise.
