Yes, at 7:48 the bug walks through. I thought it was on my screen and tried to swipe it away.

You may have mentioned this and I missed it but...you don’t have to have art to get money (selling it) and you don’t have to have materials to get houses (build). You can still assign architects to those spaces, you just have to discard the money or building card instead of keeping it. I overlooked this rule the first time I played and it’s a bit of a game changer. The rules specifically say that no one is limited in which spots they can place their architects when vying for majority or shield building.

can you tell the timestamp where he made the error you are pointing out?

Paulo Renato at 6:00 he talks about Jen buying materials before Rhado in order to “lock down” the building (ie, buy it before he can). In fact, nothing is stopping him from buying that building even before he buys materials. He just would have to discard the building. Not having materials just prevents you from keeping the building. Bottom of page 7 of the rule book. However, you MUST have art or materials when choosing the sell or build action via the Park card in the Brussels area (Note on page 9).

@@Tennethums1 I don't think he was explaining any rules in there, usually you want to take a Building card so that you'll be able to build it and get points from it and that was what he was talking about there... You might also want to take the spot where the building card is even if you don't have materials, in which case you just discard the building, to get a majority shield scoring and/or to get a majority in the auction in the column, but that wouldn't be the case there because it's way to early in the round to know if you what's in contention in either of those opportunities, so it wouldn't make much sense for him to take the building and discard it for something he doesn't know he will get at this point in the game

Paulo Renato aye, that’s what I figured. I suspected he wasn’t misrepresenting the rules but I felt it worth mentioning because maybe...ummm....it was a rule I myself missed on the first play through! Ha! Just wanted any future players out there to know it‘a possible in that instance, to take the building thus thwarting your opponents best laid plans. Like you say, it’s not something you would normally want to do and if he had, best play a high architect card because he’d pretty much be giving up a turn to take from Jen. And if you’re gonna do that then you better at least get the majority in the column or a shield (or both!). That’s what’s so intriguing about the game - a lot of stuff going on! 😀

Thank you so much for a great video! I got this game as a gift from my roomate in Belgium after my semester abroad there but the written instructions seemed so intimidating that I can't get my friends to try it with me :/ I still have a one questions though, and would be so grateful for an answer! :) Around 20:15 when Jen goes to the city for the second time to get 4 bucks, she still only sends one worker. Was that a mistake or do you only have to send one when activating George? I sandly don't speak Klingon so I can't check the subtitles I would also loooooove a video showing some gamplay in the second, third and fourth round. That would make it so much easier to get a good grasp of the point system and how exhibitions work etc.

You must place one card more than the previous player who took the same action: the first player places 1 card to take the action, the second player places 2 cards to take the same action, and so on. Jen went to a location with no other cards there (that no one went to previously) so she only has to place 1 card

18:46 Your Nth building costs N *materials* but each materials *card* provides 2. Rulebook example shows 3rd building paid for with 2 cards

Are you actually passing when you both had equal turns? So, you were the first player and Jen went last. I don’t think it would go back to you to pass when both of you are out of workers, effectively ending the round.

This is an interesting game. I will say, it has a steep learning curve. It doesn’t seem like it does but when trying to explain the rules to other players, their eyes glaze over. Why? Well, this one’s play mechanics are a bit disconnected. Honestly, I don’t know if it wouldn’t have been a better/clearer game if the theme was different? At any rate, it makes sense after a play through or two, it’s just a bit “fiddly” initially and I would never try to teach to anyone who I wasn’t sure had the attention span to learn it. I love the game, it’s just kind of an odd one. “Well, up here in Bruxelles if you send a worker after I do, you have to send two”, “why?”, “just because”. “Oh, your supposed to have art before collecting money but you COULD grab the money if you didn’t have any art, you just have to discard it”, “why??”, “just because”. Honestly, I find Race for the Galaxy easier to teach than this one. Also, RftG just...makes sense. This might be the most ambiguous/theme less/arbitrary mechanics games I’ve ever played. Like I said, it doesn’t make me hate it...It’s just funky.

Dude, please explain the rules in sequential order. You were talking about rules before ever explaining what they mean. Then maybe explain them later. Explain what does what then show how to use them. Geez.

i'm not trying to teach you how to play the game (my videos are not a good resource for that... at best they maybe help out by making it easier to read the rules after watching since you've got some contextual knowledge). The purpose of this video is to demonstrate what the game feels like to play for folks considering purchasing it, and as such, i explain things as they come up during the natural flow of gameplay :)
