All the people talking trash, realize that Rahzel is the only guy that kept beatboxing alive. He was catapulted to the forefront of hip-hop at his time, and had an extremely unique style, that brought beatboxing and rapping together in the mainstream. Just like Tony Hawk, Have people now surpassed him in skill on a skateboard? You bet your ass they have. However, Tony Hawk is still one of the godfathers of new school skateboarding. If you ask any beatboxer who their influences are, I'd be willing to bet a large percentage of them mention Rahzel. That's all I'm saying.
@JjM910849 жыл бұрын
+EvilDave83 Really? I love Rahzel and whenever he collaborated w/ The Roots. And yes he added the flavor of singing to beatboxing as he demonstrated here. But beatboxing being "catapulted to the forefront of hip-hop at his time *that brought beatboxing and rapping together in the mainstream*" everyone's mind should just go directly to the song "The Show", which included "La Di Da Di" on the B-Side and a lot of rappers covered later, but was most famously revived by Snoop in '93. But everyone refers to "The Show" as the mainstream of beatboxing being mixed into rapping. I mean The Roots and Rahzel actually paid tribute to the song on the album "In The Beginning There Was Rap" that came out in '97 which had famous rappers during that time pay tribute to the originators of rap (i.e. Wu Tang covering Sucka MC's by Run DMC and Bone Thugs covering Fuck The Police by NWA) which biggest single out the album was Def Squad's tribute to Sugar Hill Gang doing "Rapper's Delight". Doug E. Fresh = the originator of beatbox and brought it to the mainstream w/ Sick Rick

+JjM91084 I could give you shit about how old the comment was you replied to. However, I agree with almost everything you said. WHAT I meant was, 14 year old blonde teenagers knew nothing of beat boxing, aside from heavy D and the fat boys until Rahzel popped up on TRL. That's just the fact of the matter. A lot of suburban kids would never have entered into this medium, even competitively, had they not heard that album, because a lot of them never listened to Wu Tang, or any other hip hop aside from Eminem or, er, ahem* Limp Bizkit (hey, that was the times) for that matter. When these people heard him cover Prince, it blew their minds. That's all I meant brother. Peace out.
@JjM910849 жыл бұрын

+JjM91084 I'm more up on hip hop than you know for sure, and have been a hip hop head since 1992. For whatever reason I just got a notification of your reply today. No matter how fucking old it was. How about we both agree to fuck off respectively before this turns into a Hip hop trivia battle that drags on through the ether back and forth for far longer than I'd prefer to dedicate the time to?
@JjM910849 жыл бұрын
EvilDave83 translation = I don't know shit about hip-hop, but I need to explain myself as to why I replied to your comment. I should probably fuck off fast before I get exposed, yet I should make a comment to save face w/o showing I'm throwing the white flag. That translation hitting a little too close to home huh? Trust me, by the references you made in your 1st reply (it wasn't a good look for you bruh) if there was a "hip-hop trivia battle" or whatever the fkc b/w you and I, it wouldn't be that much of a back and forth. Trust

Don't get me twisted, Rahzel is a legend and will always be. I really respect for all that he has contributed to the beatbox scene. However in today's day he isn't the best, simply because as with any other music or art form, beatbox has evolved a lot by the years. I'm assuming you just know beatboxing from, like you said, "kids and their tic tocs", but you should really look up the actual beatbox scene! If you bother checking it out, I'd suggest you look up GBB 2019 videos, especially of the 2019 Champion, D-Low. (GBB = Grand Beatbox Battle, one of the biggest beatbox events in the current day) I am in no way hating on Rahzel or anything. Like I said he will always remain a legend. The present beatbox scene owes it to the legends like Biz, Rahzel, Kenny etc, without them, beatbox wouldn't have ever taken off
