Raiden Series & Spinoffs (1990/2017) SHMUP!

Seibu Kaihatsu developed the Raiden games and their related spin-offs from 1990 to 1998. The Raiden license was later acquired by MOSS in 2005. Raiden III and Raiden IV have been developed on various Taito boards (Taito Type X series), while Raiden V is the first game in the series to be released first on a console (the Xbox One) and later on PC, but never had an arcade version.
This video is a tribute to this mythical series to see its evolution, I show you all its games as well as its fantastic spinoffs, which makes it a video with a very high educational value and also for the preservation of the video game.

I was amazed at ground damage effect by debris fell from the enemy aircrafts. of course my favorite is the Cluster bomb effect on Raiden 2

I love Raiden, but was totally blown away when I first played Raiden II. Everything about it was a step above the original especially like little details like when the ships crash to the ground the animation effect was awesome.

Raiden III It's because of games like this I searched for and bought a flat panel mount that allows rotation of my 40" screen to portrait mode! Raiden III on PC is an awesome game to play in portrait mode, I'll have to see if Raiden IV or V are on PC. though tbh, Raiden III was a massive graphical improvement over previous instalments and not much has changed with IV and V.

I prefer Raiden II and that is because of the Giant Purple Plasma D i c k of F u c k Y o u that you can use on the enemy, and combine that with the Homing Missiles, and you can make the Carnassians have a very bad day.

Well, Raiden III has a PS2 port as well, and there are also ports of Raiden I and Raiden II under The Raiden Collection/The Raiden Project for the PS1. Also, not only does that also play on the PS2, but that you can also have turbo functions in both games, so you can now just turbo spam enemies and make them regret their long lists of poor life choices. Sadly, no Super Raiden or Raiden DX extras were on that game, though, which is a shame, as I would have love to have played those games with those options as well. Still, the ports of all three games are almost arcade perfect.

I love Raiden, I have not played all of them, but when I try to play V, there is something with the background moving in a way that really makes me unwell, it looks like that type of "fast backgrounds" already started with Raiden III. I love Raiden 1 and 2, also Raiden Trad on Mega Drive, which was my first Raiden experience, and the spinoffs look really good too, but Raiden III looks to me similar like Raiden V, moving in a way that makes me unwell, very strange, not to mention the movie and people talking to you at the same time.. To me the pinnacle graphic wise seem to be the Raiden Fighters games, they look really awesome. And the best music is the first ones, before it got to much fast paced techno type music. There is something special with the nice music in Raiden I, II and DX, and not to overwhelming speed of the game, you just want to play it, it is just fun.

Mad respect for Viper Phase 1. The original Japanese version is very difficult, and I couldn't get past the 5th stage boss. Limited weapons requires complete perfect timing.

Raiden5 is fail, I hope Raiden6 go back to classic shmup. If they insist on using dialog during mission, they should be getting some clue from Ace combat, you don;t talk random crap to pilot on mission. Asterbreed also have this problem, they sounds like on a vacation.

I don't like the 3D gfx of Raiden III-V. The pixel art of the Raiden Fighters series is the best art in the series. Pixel art looks much chunkier and grittier than polygons.

Raiden is a great shooter series collection but in compare to caves dodonpachi Serie Raiden has no chance in Action and score system. The new Raiden parts looks horrible and boring. I prever the older Raiden Parts.
