My favorite story of the ark is when the Philistines stole the ark, took it to their cities, each city suffered plague and catastrophe, then they put it in the temple of Dagon as a war trophy to commemorate their god. The next day the statue of Dagon was face down worshiping the ark. The Philistine priests came back to the temple set Dagon's statue back up. The next day Dagon was in pieces before the Ark. The Philistines got scared and sent it back to Israel.

I'm not sure if that was the only time it was captured by the enemy of the Hebrews but I do know it was captured whenever the Hebrews brought it into battle against the will of God, so their punishment was losing it. But it was never meant to be held by anyone other than the Jews so the Ark would bring disaster upon the enemy nation until they finally returned it and asked the Jews to ask their God to stop heaping disasters upon the enemy nation. Kind of funny in a dark way.

There is something I call the "Steven Spielberg Effect" where actors that work with that director seem to become better at acting for the rest of their career. The massive difference in Harrison Ford between Star Wars and this is considerable.

I think that can actually be boiled down to the ‘George Lucas effect.’ How many actors have turned in good performances when Lucas directs? Take all 3 of the Star Wars prequels for example. Look at that cast. Many of them accomplished, Oscar nominated, or winning, actors. How many of them look like emotionless drones in those movies? Every. Last. One.

You know, Hitler actually got an ancient relic, the Lance of Longinus, the spear used by that roman soldier to pierce Christ side. It was not the actual one, of course, but at the time it was thought it was authentic, and it was at a museum in Austria. Hitler confiscated it when Germany annexed Austria. This movie takes advantage of the known taste of Hitler about ancient "magic". Great video as always!

You're right. H. Himler especially was into magic, astronomy, spirits, and ancient super artifacts. A lot of SS members followed the ancient Nordic and Germanic religions. Most Germans at the time were practitioners of Lutheranism and Catholicism. The SS followed the old gods instead of Christ.
@thelionsshare6668

that actually factored into comic book lore. DC comics explained why Superman and the rest of their heroes didn't knock out Germany and Japan and end the war early: because that spear magically protected the Axis, as long as they had possession of it.

"1941" is still pretty amazing in its own way and deserves some reaction videos. Hint, Hint...

One of the greatest action adventure films ever - Ford's other iconic role cemented his stardom and the franchise proved its powerful attraction. I love Karen Allen's Marion - so sexy, strong and smart. (Met her once; she was a sweetie and even lovelier in person). Fun fact: the scene in the bazaar with the dude with the ginormous sword - Ford (and many of the crew) had dysentery and was so weak and tired that he said to Spielberg "How about I just shoot the sonuvabitch?" and did :D The actor wasn't pleased since they were to have an elaborate sword fight that he had rehearsed for thoroughly. Great film & reactions.

Super fun reaction to a super fun movie! Lucas and Spielberg together, when both were at their prime. Another huge movie from this time period is "Superman" (1978). I usually don't like superhero movies, but that one was the first and, in my opinion, still the best. Really fun. Also Spielberg's "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" from 1977, same year as "Star Wars" and also hugely successful. His best film, in my opinion, and the one he says he'd keep over all his others as his legacy. It's definitely Spielberg at his most Speilbergian.

Two naive KZbin viewers are about to "put on the Fedora and whip." Spielberg wanted to "do 'James Bond," but Lucas suggested the 1930's movie serials and a franchise was born. Second choice Harrison Ford got to create another iconic movie character, and we got enough action for THREE movies!;) Alfred Molina's first major film role. Trivia: The "South American jungle of 1936" was on Kauai. "The Raider's March" is another iconic John Williams work that has become an instant earworm. Two-Fisted, hard drinking "Marion Ravenwood" is/was a match for "Dr. Henry Jones, Jr." Then there's the Nazi Monkey. FSO: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4fWe2R5nZJ_iqM

When I watched this and they opened the Ark to find just sand, I always assumed that it was all that was left of the stone tablets that the ten commandments were written on. I figured that they disintegrated over time. Also, at the end, I never thought that it was a giant warehouse full of artifacts, I always thought that the other boxes were decoys meant to hide the real box that had the Ark in it. Like if anyone figured out where the Ark was, they would have to look through thousands of boxes to find it. Back in the 80s, they made a Raiders of the Lost Ark video game for the Atari 2600. It was very primitive by today's standards, but for the time, it was fairly complex. You had to buy supplies at the market, visit the map room at a certain time, go to the place shown in the map room, etc.

I was 10 when this movie came out was under the impression it was just a cowboy movie because of the commercials with Indy riding a horse. To this young Star Wars fan, seeing Hon solo as a cowboy was the opposite of forward progress. Even worse, when my sister drove us to see it the car broke down on the way so we walked in late at the scene were Indy is teaching class and talking at the chalkboard. Ugh, worse than this fourth grader had feared! Of course, it didn't take long to realize this was not a cowboy movie at all and it soon became a favorite. The artistry of it all before computers is so amazing.

On looking at the Israelite deity… it’s not necessarily about sin. There’s a Biblical story in which the deity tells Moses, “you cannot look at my face and live.” So, the deity shields Moses with his hand at the cleft of a mountain. I interpret it to mean you can’t bear to look at the shining essence of the deity and survive intact. There’s a Kabbalistic story of four rabbis who did a meditation to see YHVH’s dwelling. One never came out of it. One came out and rejected all the teachings. One came out totally scatterbrained. The fourth came out intact.

19:10 The big statues where they find the ark are statues of Anubis, the ancient Egyptian God of things like death and the afterlife but funnily enough tombs as well which makes sense in that scene. He's either always shown as a man with the head of a canine or just 100% full on a big black wolf with gold. Usually depicted a lot more calm and content than the big toothed ugly angry thing in this film though. 🤣

This very successfully resurrected the spirit of the old cliffhanger serials that used to play in the theaters every week. It's a fun movie to watch every now and then. The sequels are good but never quite achieve the same tautness.

The first 3 are excellent! It's funny how it got made. Speilberg and Lucas on vacation in Hawaii. Speilberg had finished et, Lucas finished star wars. They're talking to each other about old movies. And how in theaters they would show short," serial plays", usually the all American Hero, saves the day, defeats the bad guy, gets the girl....so they start talking about their perfect character, and come up with Indy! Harrison Ford is the only guy I know of, who was a big starving 3 franchises. Han Solo, Indy and Deckerd from Bladerunner! And all about the same time!!

1. While filming in Tunisia most of the cast got food poisoning and Ford actually got diarrhea from it. and was very ill. The scene where he shoots the guy was supposed to be a long fight scene but Ford was feeling so bad and it was terribly hot so he basically said, "The hell with this" and just shot the guy. LOL 2. Karen Allen played Boone's squeeze in "Animal House" HINT HINT 3. If you don't like spiders you're going to love the next one. It's not the best of the bunch but it's adventurous. Billy is a pain in the ass though. 4. Two overlooked Harrison Ford movies worth a first time/share are: "Witness" and "Force 10 From Navarone" 5. The sand in the ark is the stone tablets turned to sand over time. 6. The ride at Disneyland is pretty cool. Make sure it's one of your first to get it out of the way. Adventureland. PS, Your asawa is a hottie dude. Good for you😍😋

Harrison Ford did a great job in this role. At first, George Lucas was hesitant to cast him, considering he had him play Han Solo in two "Star Wars" films at this point. Originally playing Indy was Tom Selleck, but he had to leave the project due to being cast for the TV series "Magnum P.I.", so they went with Ford after all, and the rest is history.

Y'all's channel has quickly become one of my favorite RVC channels. Two delightful people who really love movies. Raiders Of The Lost Ark is a great movie, as you two found out. It was a blast watching it again with you guys. I didn't like the 2nd one as much as the first and 3rd ones. But number 2 is a good movie. The 3rd in the series does center around the search for the Holy Grail. The 4th one is not bad, although it received mixed reviews. Another sequel, said to be the final one, is coming out in a few months. Keep up the good work.

Love this movie. I works for Romanian immigrants here in Los Angeles. Their daughter-in-law used to have me say certain words or phrases. That if mispronounced become bad words in Romanian. She she stopped because I kept saying them right. If you haven't seen Steven Spielberg's movie Hook starring Robin Williams, their son was one of the Lost Boys. Ciao.

The scene where he shot the swordsman was not part of the script. He was supposed to snag the scimitar with his whip and use it against him. However, during shooting, everyone was so sick with dysentery that Harrison Ford got sick of doing too many takes and shot the guy.
