As our godfather Raider explained in a previous video, every support has a form of utility to help the team in other ways besides healing. Moira only has healing and damage. Moreover, she has a very low skill ceiling, meaning she can counter Genji easy enough in gold, but is easily countered as you meet more experienced players. Also, you're limited in how much you can help your team, compare this to Ana, where there's no limit to how much you can support your team as your skill increases.

no there are hordes of people who genuinely think this, I was in a match and a mercy player kept bitching about it, saying supports should have more health or health that has damage reduction so they can live through more fights, meanwhile not realizing that standing infront of the enemy for a rez IS NOT THE WAY MERCY IS PLAYED, then again they played moira as well and then just never did anything good; be it damage or health healed, sure the dps numbers were high but 0 actual elims, just barely any assists, healing but not enough to actually get someone out of critical situations so they would just die while being piss streamed or an orb just flying into NOWHERE

Support isn't unimpactful. It may be the most boring, stressful, focused, and flamed class, but a good support can change the outcome of a game, even if to a lesser extent than a good tank or dps can. Support isn't unimpactful, it's the least impactful.

boring is extremely subjective. support is a very active role where you do a lot of different things all at once, and some players find that fun, including myself. stressful is also somewhat subjective tbh. a lot of stress and focus fire can be avoided by good positioning, and if they're diving or otherwise flanking, then you need to improve your positioning or pick a support with the mobility it defense to get out. or you'll just get fucked because your team reguses to help you, which is totally a thing, but it isnt because of the support role by any means. support also doesnt have the least impact on a fight, honestly each role has equally huge value in a fight. taking an important position on tank can win fights, landing an important pick can win a fight, and well timed utility from a support player can win a fight just as well as picks and taking space. in facts, tanks are useless without healers and dps are best countered by good supports through either healing or utility, but of course this dynamic goes both ways for every role. tanks enable dps to get good picks and enable their team to stay alive to get their value. dps force tanks to face the consequences of their actions if they're too greedy and the more vulnerable supports are the most valuable picks a dps can get, if they can get them. it's a triangle dynamic through and through, no one role can get huge value without the others and enemies of every role actively deny your value regardless of role.

GM support main here. I play every support competently on console and I am a massive zen enjoyers. I hard carry most of my games through sheer pressure alone. My stats are worse than gold players but I have a massively high win rate when I play with a duo and a 63% in solo queue. I agree with *almost* everything in this video. You hit the nail on the fucking head my guy. Most supports are bad because they don't understand one word. PRESSURE I win 90% of my games because of the pressure I exude as a zenyatta. spamming choke and slapping balls on people's foreheads just wins games... if you don't die that is. I average about 1 death every two lost teamfights. I don't get caught out, I don't get sniped, I don't get dove, and I don't get poked out. I only die if my whole team gets whiped, and even then I still live like half the time. It isn't my job as zenyatta (the highest damage support) to do damage. It is my job to but my yellow ball on my gengi and put my purple ball on the backline and press my funny button when my team is gonna die. If you read this thank you and spread the word that all the support players are shit and they should just play zen because he is robo jesus and I love him and he is my favorite boy.

I love playing Mercy, she is my favourite support to play, but when it isn't doing well for my team, I switch to a support that will be more useful. I used to one-trick because I was so nervous to try new heroes and be bad at them, but all you have to do is practice and learn how to really learn the hero in QP or whatever. There really shouldn't be any one-tricks in comp imo.

If we have a good Pharah, yeah I might go Pharmercy especially when the other team can't hitscan. its so funny I just played a game where the enemy mercy and Kiriko were outhealing me by 1k but both of them didn't even have 100 dmg whilst I had 5k dmg hitting my sleeps and anti nades on the enemy hog and my team blamed me because I wasn't healing more than the enemy team the entire game I had 6 ults with 60% accuracy and 10 sleeps I don't understand how people think supports are just there to heal the entire game and literally offer nothing else I'm perfectly okay with being out healed by 1k or less because I know for a fact the other supports aren't getting the most out of their abilities than I am

One thing that really aggravates me about a lot of supports is that they expect their team to protect them which leads to them being directly behind the tank or in lower ranks further ahead than the dps in team fights. Some healers like Moira require this positioning in order to actually do anything but for some characters they just choose to ignore the concept of positioning

The support role is one most frustrating in my opinion. You characters like Brig, Moria, and Bap (maybe even Kiriko) that do a shit ton of healing. But they don’t offer much to the team besides extra damage. But you have other characters (mainly the secondary supports) that give off buffs and debuffs which helps the team more. You have Zen and Lucio with two of the best defensive ults in the game, but then you have a Moria that does (yes a lot of healing), but not enough to out heal majority of the DPS/Tank ults. I still it’s a balancing issue and skill issue yes, however there are other support ults that are kinda underwhelming (Brig). It’s just still a mess for support in my opinion and experience.

Agreed. If you ask me they should bring temporary armor back to her rally at the very least. If a tank like Rammatra can win almost every team fight with his ult (especially with good supports) then I don't see why they shouldn't let Brig be able to have her armor rally back. I get she broke the game when she came out but her current utility isn't all that good. It takes one diver to focus Brig and it's curtains.

I think a lot of frustration that comes with playing support has to do with other players expecting me to heal bot. When I don’t healbot they get mad at me. They just don’t understand the support role, and think my only purpose is to heal them and do nothing else. I get the Moira argument, and maybe this is coming from someone who plays her from time to time, but I feel it’s worth mentioning strategic fades for tactical healing/damage (whenever applicable). It’s also worth mentioning good orb usage. I don’t go out and talk about my stats outside of healing mainly cuz that what I prioritize. Heal first damage second. I just feel like the acknowledgement of how certain Moira players use their abilities vs those who actually make the brain dead Moira player true needs to happen. A lot of good Moira players can fade out if they need and still get the heals down for a low teammate or the damage orb sent to scare low enemies so that your teammates can fall back for a fight reset. Otherwise I really agree with everything you’ve said in this video. I just feel like there should be something said about the support characters that are used well instead of purely focusing on the ones who give them a bad name

The issue is that any value you just attributed to moira, you can get more from another support. Moira gets high damage numbers because she does a lot of trash damage throughout the game but if you are actually skilled she is less lethal than every single other support except non-valk mercy. most of her damage does not lead to kills because she has no burst damage. damage that does not lead to kills is just ult charge for the enemy supports. other supports also heal just as much if not more while providing actual utility as well. Moira has 0 utility. Lastly, as stated in the video, she is not even the most survivable support as when played right other supports have many more tools to keep themselves and teammates alive. she fundamentally brings nothing to the role right now which is why she needs a rework. the only value she has is in her ease of use and lack of brain or aim required. putting any amount of effort into any other support will net you better results at ALL ranks.

I play a lot of Moira on console to climb through gold and even most of plat and she's very effective. Around diamond her effectiveness starts to drop off so I rarely pick her. It's situational. The way people shit-talk her you'd think everyone is grandmaster. It's so annoying automatically getting hate for playing her. I main support mostly and I am sick of these NPCs claiming support is useless and unimpactful. The truth is that support has the most impact on the game and this is not an opinion, it is a FACT. No other role has high healing and damage potential, no other role has high utility that can help the team and themselves, and finally, no other role has the privledge of being the most protected heroes on the team. If these support players keep dying, they're most likely out of position. If these support players are struggling, they're probably not using the right support for that game and need to switch ect.

Speaking from a high masters support, the biggest thing for me is being able to switch ur play styles and adjust to your team. If your team is popping off there’s no need to go for risky plays and just healing can be the most impactful thing to do, just enable ur teammates to do what they’ve been doing all game. Now the majority of the time the easiest way to win is by only really focusing on healing when people are going to die. All the rest of the time take off angles, abuse the tank, and just do damage. Pressure and map control is key

Great video, love the points and how they were addressed. I would add: -I would give supports buffs that activate IF they’re supporting the team by getting assists, saves, sleep dart hits, etc. -when I play Mercy, I try to do damage before I heal since the heroes with escape abilities usually run away when they take too much damage. Or I get an elimination. I don’t think she’s bad unless you limit yourself to only using part of her kit. Just a thought. -support is a difficult role, but more players should try it out. I usually open queue since damage role takes like 10 mins sometimes. The damage role is too saturated and I think playing different roles is a way for players to see how the other roles work. A skilled player should have a base understanding of the roles, the map, and the objectives.

Moira gets high dmg and heals because that's literally all she does. She heals with primary, damages with secondary, can throw a damage/heal orb, or ult (which is a mix of damage and healing). Boggles my mind that moiras are always so proud of their stats.

Then I start getting shit on by my teammates. Even though we still won the game. The community in this game is insane. I agree with everything you have said in this video. Im masters 1 and was hardstuck diamond for nearly 10ish seasons. I been climbing with kiriko because of the utility she gives and her high dmg ceiling and her high heals. Most games i lose is because i have a Moira/Mercy player who refuses to switch and truely contribute to fights and just heal our tank who lost 100hp while im trying to min max my heals on two low dps players. I avg 3.4k dmg and 9.5k healing per 10 mins, and have 30% acc and 23 crit acc along with 5.25 deaths per 10 mins. Love your videos Raider! Been here awhile now ❤

I had a similar mindset going into Overwatch 2 after a long hiatus but started to play more and get into the groove of things and found how fun it is to land a few clutch cooldowns, kills, and assists with Ana and Kiriko being pretty great to play in my opinion. I think people just have to practice some and not have a weak mentality of giving up or pity. Missed a sleep? Landed the suzu half a second too late? It's ok to fail to learn, just keep at it again.

I often average below 10 deaths unless being focused hard and even then its usually leading to my team pushing better since they got 1 or 2 flanking me and less of a numbers game vs the rest of my team. I mainly play brig and bap these days but trying to work on improving on ana and kiriko as well but hasnt been as easy for some weird reasons at times but all good. Still learning and improving. I even got some compliments on my positioning and decision making as ana recently which felt good.

as a person who actually like support I do believe we have some unfun events but overall it’s mostly bc ppl pressure us to DPS. I think attack Mercys are kinda jokes bc her role is to heal and boost damage and a good balance of that makes her good (trust me i’m learning this and helping a better outcome of a game) just using her gun ALL the time and not when a serious 1v1. Like slow down walmart Pharah. Overall, it’s tunnel vision (for healing or damage) that’s making support feel lackluster. -A Mercy and Zen main

I play as a flex support gm on my main, and played moira in most games upto high diamond and it was really fun. However what got me to gm was flexing to other characters at is a MUST and for every character, using abilities correctly and efficiently is IMPORTANT. So advice, stop one tricking mercy and moira from a former moira main :)

As someone who has been a Mercy main since the beginning Overwatch 1, Ive been trying to Stop being a heal bot and instead damage boasting my teammates more When they get to around 80% of their health. I also Want to learn to play Ana and maybe Zen, My only problem is my terrible aim haha so I need to work on that first (that just comes down the practise and getting good). But I completely agree that healers do have an impact! The simple change Ive made with my mercy gameplay has helped me when WAY more games because Im actually being some what of a support character instead stick my staff up the other players ass and just healing. Also staying alive does help a lot!

quick tip, if you dont mind ofc ! just ignore if you do: but try and dmg boost when theyre actually doing dmg (healing during the reload) and alternating between beams. you dont have to wait till theyre at a certain health to heal them

Love your take on this, however as a zenyatta main survivability is an actual issue especially when my team sucks or i get targeted by the enemy team. I hope you make a video about Zen like your thoughts on the character and how to play him and survive better with him. Personally, i think he feels slow af and the only good thing about him is his high damage output and the fact that once you cast orb of harmony on someone you dont have to focus as much on healing. The speed at which it heals teammates though is pretty dogshit Edit: should also mention that his ultimate is very good though and can save the whole team when properly used

Coming from a current gold Open Que healer I’ve carried and had major roles in nearly all my games towards getting the W, that includes killing the enemy too lmao One game, I was the only healer. Was mercy. We were about to lose team fight and I was the only one left. I stalled so hard by mercy jumping and maneuvering with my teams dead orb-things, they couldn’t hit me, team came back and we won the game. Speaking of, I’ve never touched Moira yet. My Go-To’s are Bap, Ana, and Lucio. Sometimes kiriko. Bap’s attack is so gawd damn juicy😩

Lmao I agree with the whole video dude. But Idk, I think there's a lot of stuff one can do as any character (Including moira lol). But definitely knowing more characters will give you way more experience than just being a one trick support. Moira players, you need to get more creative, that fade makes you invincible for a few secs, but that's more than enough to either take cover, use spheres, or reposition yourself to use your ult. I just started the game, and I got to gold with moira for a bit, but I want to start playing Lucio/Ana/Kiriko cause they all have crazy abilities.

i'm madly in love with raider. we have the same ideology of the game and especially supports. moira IS NOT OP. just because a dust 5 dps couldn't kill a moira in the 4 entire seconds it takes for her to kill a 200hp target then goes on to claim she's op doesn't mean she's good. they're bad and it's a major skill issue. the best supports rn are kiriko, lucio, ana and bap. reason being. lucio is perfect for every composition. his speed boost is incredible impactful not just for making plays but getting into preferred positions. i'm not entirely sure as to why kiriko is so good right now i assuming it's the impact of her ult and suzu. ana has incredible damage and healing output along with a sleep and an ABILITY that PREVENTS healing. i've seen someone try to make an argument that deflect is better than anti and they were being serious. and bap has immaculate repositioning skills and immortality. need i say more? characters such as zen, brig and mercy are viable in very specific situations. zen and brig are in my opinion characters you pick to counter a specific character. and mercy is only useful to enable your dps usually a hitscan or your tank/second support in very different situations. moira is the only support that can be considered a healer as that is all she is good for. she has very small survivability, ZERO utility and little damage. she is only good for healing and even at that she hasn't got the most healing output. that is all.

Ana is my favorite kit to use in the game because of the utility she has and is extremely fun to play as.

Ive been playing ana in masters-top 500 for years and i feel pretty powerless these days. I know the match making has something to do with it, but there are so many things working against me now i feel like i need to play perfectly to have an impact. Too many one shots i cant heal, 3 second nade means theres no follow up on nades, 14 second sleep cd means i can rarely afford to use it. Then there is suzu on top of that negating most of my kit. It just feels wrong. I so often feel after a lost team fight "in overwatch 1 that nade would have won the fight". And there are so many more games now where my team just gets deleted one by one and i cant do anything to stop it other than go full dps.

I think what sucks the fun out of playing supports, is not that they are bad or weak, its the fact that so many people blame them for low heals, despite them fighting for their own lives in the backline, without the help of their tunnelvisioning dps and tanks. The counterpicking-part is corret, but its just plain bad design to expect players to be able to play all dps, supports or tanks at roughly the same level, just to be viable. The thing with pahra or echo though... yeah if u have a bap or ana u can shoot her, but dps have way more better suited options for killing them, so they should switch.

Whenever I play support I do have the issue of overhealing especially as Ana, I basically become a heal bot and I do try to do other things, but I don't enjoy being flamed by my teammates for not focus healing especially tanks.

Same! Ana is a strong hero and you can typically get away with locking her every game and having that high amount/ranged healing. But you should naturally have about 2-4k damage a game because you need to focus on hitting big nades!

As a support main, I really hate some other support players, ESPECIALLY mercy mains. They are so god damn entitled because they expect the game the work around the one single hero they can manage to play when that's not how the support role works. You don't support by just healing; you support by picking the RIGHT character to enable your team and disable the enemy team.

Tbh i dont agree that moira is trash. If its played by really skilled players that have hundreds or thousands of hours with her, then she can really carry and also deal a lot of damage. Especially her ult is a big game changer (or can be) you can instantly heal everyone of your mates in a matter of seconds, while you can kill annoying chars like a mercy+phara. I never stopped playing her since i started playing overwatch back in 2018 or 2019 (cant remember) and it is not rare that i got 27k heal and 10k+ damage on ps (which i think is pretty good for diamond) p.s. Not every moira ''main'' is an annoying b*tch that keeps telling how dogsh*t theyre teammates are just because they have more healings. I just wanted to mention it in that comment because i told about my 27k heal

If you want to do alot of damage then go bap. Better utility with immo and his instant heal. A good Moira player isn't gonna magically increase her healing range. Also you said you're diamond which is the threshhold between being able to farm low elo players because her skill floor is so low/having the enemy supports play the better meta heros like kiriko lucio and thus already having a bigger advantage because they outclass moira

@@GSRaider WIth moira you can heal much more easier through a lot of mates. Baptiste on the other hand cant shoot through mates and often cant heal the people they wanted to. The healing range isnt a problem if the team your playing with has at least 4 iq cells you can stay in a position where you can heal most of your team and even if someones far away dying, you can just phase to them. To the argument with the diamond rank, i cant really say much but your right. Oh and btw i forgot to say good video. Always chilling to watch your videos (espacially in the morning when i am eating breakfast or playing ranked(i am just listening to your video in the background or i am watching it in window mode (rarely)))

I play moira, but I don't like playing her as a dmg or heal bot, a support should be about utility and multitasking, i like her cuz she gets punished harder by trying to flank or getting flanked, I like her ult and i usually win more with her, plus is not all about healing numbers and dmg she can also get kills pretty easily with orb bounces or if a dmg has a hard time flanking their support you can go behind with it and help, she has that aggression that a lot of backline supports don't have, I don't get why you shit on a hero, when is the people playing it that do something wrong and that's usually for any hero they would play if they are bad.

I switched to Moira because Ana felt significantly harder to play on console ever since cross play became a thing, and also that mercy was just….not fun to use in overwatch 2. Especially if the enemy tank is a Winston. It was a overnight change from bronze to gold, but in a game where half the roster has good mobility options, fade isn’t all that impressive. Even though I stay away from aim based characters post cross play, I might learn how to play zenyatta for more damage on my team
