i remember seeing this movie in theaters with my dad… i was like 11 or 12 and it was the first R-rated film i had seen in a theater. It is to this day one of my all time favorites and most watched films. Maximus is a legendary character.

Ridley Scott is one of my favourite directors. I re-watched this movie again recently, before I see the sequel, and I’d forgotten how fantastic it is. Nobody does epic like Ridley. A different genre of movie that he directed in 1991, which is one of my favourites of his, is Thelma and Louise. Fantastic performances, a great script and of course it looked amazing. And that ending.

Whilst I don’t think Gladiator is one of the greatest films ever made, I still think it’s a fantastic movie and really love it as a movie and definitely better than a lot of the blockbuster films we get now a days. I do love a good historical movie as I loved history and learning the past as a kid from school. I really wish Hollywood would start making ancient epics and old school western movies again, when done right films in that genre kick ass. Gladiator is one of them. I think the Directors that might be interested in doing a film in that ancient epic genre is people like Denis Villeneuve Christopher Nolan Martin Scorsese Robert Eggers Paul Thomas Anderson Alejandro Inaritu
