Wonderful stuff. At 65 years old and an ex railwayman and lifelong enthusiast I actually found it incredibly moving when the whistles started. Thank you for posting.

Visited Grosmont in November and saw them working on the engines, clearly all the hard work has paid off, well done!

Thanks for posting that. I was at Tanfield Railway for their event this morning. They had five steam locos and three diesels to mark the Railway 200 event, but also to start their 300th anniversary celebration year. Tanfield railway started operating in 1725.

Well done all. It was great to watch on the live cam. I then watched my local railways version... Let's say, there was a considerable time difference between how long you went on for and the extremely short version at my local railway.

I wish I was there to see it, but I likely won’t be able to visit until February. I haven’t even seen Repton, Omaha or Lucie running yet, and I’m hoping to see Repton in action at least once this year.

By far the best I have seen on all the videos, went to bluebell’s and their one was alright at Horsted Keynes but not as much as this, wow. Should happen more often 😂

Big event locally, early 50's. Family stood by open window at midnight ,as a tradition, to listen to the chorus from the local goods yard. We now only have the memories.

My thoughts exactly. I can only imagine what it would be like on the Severn Valley or Dean Forest railways who are almost exclusively GWR.

I wonder if this ever happened in BR days at MPD's for it happened in Australia where everyone from fitters to call boys to cleaners to drivers and fireman all pulling on whistle cords of engines in steam to welcome in the new year. Nice to see it happening on the NYMR and all the best for 2025 🇦🇺🇬🇧

@@Steamfan-m7s The railway will fully re-open sometime towards the end of March but it’s not been confirmed yet. However, there is a special event in February between the 15th to 23rd: www.nymr.co.uk/Event/february-half-term-with-ner-autocar

All of the neighbours who usually complain are gonna scream at the council now… 😂😂 but they kinda deserve it tbh, why decide to live next to a railway and then complain?

Visited once around 10 years ago. One rude and quite ignorant member of ticket staff (volunteer or not) on the train ruined our entire day with his stroppy attitude. Travelled all the way from the south coast, the bus was late and bus stop is nowhere near the station, as it was our first visit we just managed to get on the train with seconds to spare before it departed, we didn't know we couldn't buy tickets on the train. When he came through asking to see tickets, we asked if we could purchase them at that point explaining about only having seconds to join the train whereupon a stroppy lecture ensued from this guy about buying them at the station, after about 40 seconds I just snapped and said "look charge us whatever you want, just do your job and get lost." Needless to say the lecture stopped. Maybe it was one idiot who shouldn't be the face of NYMR but he was and unfortunately never again would I visit.
