My favorite display was the hobo sitting by a campfire. You’d pick up one of three heavy black phones and he’d tell a story about hoboing in the Depression Era. The museum moved him to a boxcar but he sat, pinched stogie in hand, next to his campfire for 20 years. He was still keeping vigil in the hobo jungle as recently as 2004. I’ve searched high n low online for a picture of that vignette.

A few things I want to add, being a US rail enthusiast and amateur historian: The Super Chief was something of a superstar among US passenger trains; it had a reputation for being the preferred train for Hollywood stars and other celebrities who wanted to travel to LA in style. In regards to the slumber car 'simulator', it's worth noting the black porter dummy near the end; following the Civil War, working as a porter, coach attendant or dining car cook on a passenger railroad was one of the first and best jobs available for the average American black man. You'll even see this referenced from time to time in movies like Silver Streak. You can also find footage of the refrigerator cars being regularly 're-iced'; having fresh chunks of ice dumped into it sort of like one would refill the ice in a cooler or icebox. SP 2467 actually has two surviving sister engines lying around near San Francisco. 2472 is in operating condition on the Niles Canyon Railway in Alameda County, and 2479 is at the California Trolley and Railroad Corporation in San Jose (it's in the process of being fully restored).

I've been to the California Railroad Museum back in 2015. It's one of the best railroad museums I've been to so far, only at that time they didn't have that high-speed train mock-up, and the Santa Fe 6402 still had it's chrome casing and Super Chief paint scheme. I think one of the places you should do next is Railtown 1897 in Jamestown, California. It's quite famous for being one of the ideal locations for train scenes in many Western movies and TV shows, plus it's the home of the famous Sierra Railway No. 3, the movie star locomotive itself.

I hope I can visit this museum soon. If you take a rail trip to the US again, I recommend the North Carolina Transportation Museum. It’s really cool.

Siemens is trying to get the contract for the fleet for the California Giant Waste of $100 Billion... I mean High Speed Rail line. * Their main North American plant is just outside out town to the southeast. Home of the SC40 and SC44 “Charger” class diesel electric and the ACS64 (short for “Amtrak Cities Sprinter”) class electric. Though the Valero would need a heavy redesign to get picked. One look at that and the Federal Railroad Administration safety inspectors would have a coronary. There’s a reason even the Acela Express generation 2, the Alstom “Avelia Liberty”, maintains a “locomotive” like power car with no passenger space. (*I’m all for the line being built, it’s just it’s been turned into a government spending nightmare)

I've got two places you should do a few videos in your, "Rail around USA," series on, both in Michigan, The Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad in Flint (you should visit it on their railfans weekend), and The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn

Great video! Though I do want to point out a couple of mistakes. Nothing to feel bad about since the museum is so large already. When you showed us an image of the sleeping car, it appears you accidentally used an image of the former Georgia Northern No. 100, now named the "Gold Coast." Which was one of two private cars owned by photographer and railroad author Lucius Beebe and his lover and work partner Charles Clegg. They lived in the car whenever they were in Carson City and would be parked in a siding near the Carson City Roundhouse. They were leaders in trying to preserve the Virginia & Truckee, writing two books about the line trying to spread public awareness any way they can. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. The car was also used in the 1960 Disney feature "Pollyanna." It's a shame the excursion trains weren't running the day you were there, it's a great view of the river and lift bridge. The tank engine, Granite Rock Co. #10 is also quite charming. Fun Fact, the C.P. building was used as a filming location for a brief scene in the Steven Spielberg film, "Memoirs of a Geisha." Where #10 was dressed as a Chinese locomotive. The last locomotive missed was Virginia & Truckee #21, "J.W. Bowker." Built in 1875 as a switcher for Virginia City. In 1876 she was renamed "Mexico" after the real J.W. Bowker became disgraced as a drunk. She was sold in 1896 to the Sierra Nevada Wood & Lumber company and remembered to "3." She was retired and stored in 1917. In 1932, she was transferred to the Hobart & Southern, then in 1937 she was donated to the Railway & Locomotive Historic Society, becoming technically the Museums first ever locomotive. She was re-lettered back to Virginia & Truckee and given back her original name. She operated in many parts of the country for many events including Railroads on Parade. She even appeared in 3 cinematic features, "Union Pacific"(1939) "Rock Island Trail"(1950), and as the Central Pacific "Jupiter" in "The Wild Wild West"(1999). And what was the music you used for the C.P. Huntington segment? It sounds very familiar.

@@NWR1991 If you do ever visit Carson City(if you haven't already), just let me know and I'll happily get permission to take you in the back sheds where most of the unrestored equipment is kept, as well as an equipment guidebook. Do you have an email address or Twitter? And when the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental railroad does come around, I suggest you make plans to visit Ogden, Utah, as there will surely be many locomotives attending the event. In particular the Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 4014.

Isaiah Williams - I would love to see the Big Boy in operation, always loved that engine since I was a kid. But sadly I don’t have any plans set for May 2019, I hope to see it in operation, depending on the time.
