“Our” Menards had the same dragon-thingy and I too thought it was pretty cool as well. Maybe next year if they have them again. When Menards first brought out their train stuff I just about choked because it looked so kitschy. It still looks that way but for some reason at Christmas I go to Menards to see their train stuff to see if there’s anything new. You know, if you’re just getting into trains and you wanted a cheap way of finding out if it’s for you, a Menards train set is ideal-and they have all those cool accessories. One thing most people don’t know about is the blue V & O boxcar that Menards carries. The V & O is the Virginian and Ohio, which was a famous model railroad built by Allen McClelland. It’s not often that a mythical model railroad is featured on the shelves of a major home improvement store. I’m serious HO scale but I’ve thought about an O-scale Menards set for something to put around the Christmas tree. I could hang a flying saucer from a bottom tree branch over the gas station…..

@@MrStevesTrains Well, they’re not exactly Atlas O, but if it means getting a kid started in the hobby the details don’t matter. The buildings are pretty cool and even though they’re more expensive than what I grew up with they’re worth it.

Good, at least you got a shot of the really nice, Texaco "Teague style," 1950s gas station. Several others spotlighting Menard's, 2023, O gauge buildings on KZbin have left it out. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for showing me what's available at Menards. Loved the video! I'm an O guage and Lionel guy. Only until recently I bought some Rail King stuff and I like that. Now, after seeing a lot of Menards train merchandise up close , I am impressed. Keep on showing anything O scale. Thanks again.

This is what I love about menards is that the train is or just a side hustle and yet I still want them to released there are own remote control diesels because that was would be fun to have so that way you wanna have to buy a line now or mark's transit in order to have a full transit

My entire layout was built using Menards track and seems to be a good, sturdy, and reliable product and is a welcome addition to the hobby. I have purchased a few of their accessories and rolling stock. While these seem cosmetically well done as far as the graphics are concerned, they are lacking in reliable functionality as I have had every car I bought that has an issues with couplers not closing without slamming them together and also not staying closed. The first oil well I purchased didn't even have the main powered drive gear in alignment with the arm gears. These are made very cheaply for 40 bucks but look the part. I like that they are making the attempt to fill a void but they need to do a better job with quality control and customer service or they will soon alienate the very limited customer base they are attempting to attract. People shouldn't be so quick to give them a pass just because it seems to be a good value. 40 bucks is still a hard earned 40 bucks and isn't trash. If they sell an item making claims about it's features and functionality then it needs to do so right out of the box regardless of price. Attention to detail should be the main focus just like the Marx and Lionel business model and they will make a name for themselves like those companies did. They should issue boxed engine sets of the powered and dummy blue and black bonnet diesels instead of strater sets with track and power supplies for those of us with current active layouts that have no need of those items. Most of us already in the hobby have all the track and transformers will ever need and are looking for new offerings of engines and rolling stock to add to our collections and see those other items as a waste of money and space and is a determining factor when considering them to purchase along with a quality reliable product. A great deal isn't so great if its a waste of money and time.

Thank you for the video. I'm interested in getting into the hobby, and I've been thinking about getting a starter set. I've also been thinking about what scale to get into. I wasn't aware Menards had model trains until recently! I love Menards, but the brand has convinced me to get one of their starter sets! I think I'm going to go with an O gauge, probably the Union Pacific. Next time I head to town, I'm going to check it out.

"O" and "O-27" are BOTH O scale! the 27 refers to the track radius it will operate on.

Yes they are technically “O-scale”, but definitely not the same. O27 are smaller in overall size. True O-scale engines and rolling stock will not operate on anything smaller than O31. There is a difference.

I wish they would sell Lionel items. Also if your Menards has a second floor once they change over their seasonal stuff, go upstairs and all their overstock items are there and they may be around the same price.

Usually make it a point to drop in every year when they stock the train stuff, always nice to get some new rolling stock that's actually affordable. Run an O-27 layout, so it all fits right in with the other makes I use. The buildings are pretty cool considering what you get versus what they cost, just haven't taken the plunge on one as I have a lot of accessories already on the layout and I'd have to make some room somewhere.

My train set up is based on the Wild West, all steam locomotives, cowboys, Indians, etc. Do you have any idea where I can find cowboys, Indians in HO scale.
