Rail Hike between Ohiya, Idalgashinna & Haputale

December calls for adventure and journeying and thus we boarded the 8.00 p.m. Night-Mail 1045 from the Fort station to seek out the majestic hilltops and trails extending to nature’s wonders. Unmistakable moments of gazing at the sunrise over the vastness, rail hikes, multiple train rides and trotting amongst the most scenic locations of the Badulla district were an absolute joy and discovery.
While we had the chance meeting of crossing paths of the railway on foot to catch a glimpse of the train දෙනුවර මැණිකේ (Denuwara Menike), photographs served as tangible memories as witness to the experiences.
The weight we carried on our backs, the memories made, the dignified splendor this land carries so faithfully to its soil and the toughest and lightest moments shared as friends are what we will come back for time and time again.

If you are doing a rail hike, be aware of the danger of hornets. I was attacked by a swarm and just escaped because some railway workers helped by smoking them out . Take some repellent and a pop-up tent with you when you go
