You still definitely got time. The state owned F59s will still be around until at least 2023 since they were all just overhauled in 2012. Granted though, I myself do miss the Surfliner F59s as well. Gotta catch them while you can !

Excellent footage! I still remember my vist here back in 2010! Loved seeing these trains travel down the street! I wonder how many freights still operate through Jack London Square? Even when I went i felt like there was very little freight activity.
@BrentNguyen464 жыл бұрын
Tcostello105 Thank you ! It’s definitely worth revisiting for sure ! The freight action through Jack London Square is unfortunately very limited to only a couple freights a day. Mainly some intermodals, manifests, and locals, but usually no more than 10 freights a day at best as far as I am aware of. That, combined with the recent Precision Scheduled Railroading has made predicting freights all the more difficult recently.

Why did 715 have a comet car? And how do the passengers get to the double decker from it
@BrentNguyen464 жыл бұрын
The Comet Cars (as well as the Viewliner Dining and Baggage Cars) have recently been added onto the San Joaquin trains to accommodate a recently implemented minimum count of 28 axles for proper activation of crossing signals. The cars do not actually carry anyone and are isolated from the bi-level passenger section.

@BrentNguyen464 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jacob ! Yeah man, it’s always worth visiting Jack London Square whenever you’re in the area for sure. I’ll be focusing on stations north of Los Angeles out to Chatsworth and everything in-between in the coming months; specifically the Pacific Surfliner and Metrolink Ventura County Line trains. There are also some stations I’ve visited before on the Surfline that I anticipate on revisiting mainly because they’ve had major renovations and changes since I last railfanned there.

Why is all trains running in the roads? It looks like that we’re in the tramway
@ckildegaard4 жыл бұрын
The only answer I have is that that's how this stretch of railway was built. It used to be much more common, too.
@danielcarroll33584 жыл бұрын
This is where the rail line was originally placed about 150 years ago. It is still here and in the street because: To one side is the ship channel between the cities of Oakland and Alameda. On the other side is the downtown of Oakland with skyscrapers and all. The line can't be depressed in a tunnel or trench because there are two auto tunnels that run at right angles to the tracks that connect Alameda with Oakland. There are long term proposals to move the passenger trains underground but it will require electrification of the lines and a tunnel under the center of Oakland. We are talking billions of $.

Why do all the F59s have one working marker?
@BrentNguyen464 жыл бұрын
Some actually do have two working marker lights. When Caltrans (California Department of Transportation) ordered the F59PHIs, the locomotives numbered 2001-2009 that were built in 1994 only have one marker light. (The other red light being an emergency light). The locomotives numbered 2010-2015 that were built in 2001 do however have two working marker lights in lieu of the emergency red light present on the previous F59PHIs.
@Randoman354 жыл бұрын
@@BrentNguyen46 I didn't know that. In what situation would the emergency light shine?
@BrentNguyen464 жыл бұрын
Randoman35 Usually the light would come on following an emergency, such as an emergency brake application or no air. The light blinks similar to a strobe light.

Why does 2007 have a baggage car?
@BrentNguyen464 жыл бұрын
Those cars are used to accommodate a recently implemented minimum required 28 axle count for proper activation of crossing signals on the host railroad (BNSF).

I’ll likely visit Oakland again the next opportunity I have to visit NorCal. I’m returning to my hometown in SoCal as a result of changing work assignments, but it also allows me to continue my railfanning series of Amtrak stations throughout California at locations I haven’t yet filmed. I appreciate your viewership and your recollection of my Stockton videos ! Definitely some great action out there too.
