Railfanning Richmond, TX 12/6/14

After having a brief time railfanning at UP Englewood Yard yesterday, I saw the QEWWC-06 leaving the yard so I decided to head down to Richmond to film it. I managed to catch two other eastbounds before the QEWWC showed up. Enjoy!
Train 1: An EB UP rock train rolls by.

How's the weather in Texas for you? There's already snow on the ground up here and it's gonna get really cold in at some point in the next few weeks.

It's pretty crazy. Sometime it's warm and other time it can get cold in 40 degrees. And wow, since you live up in Canada. But the good part of snow is that it provides beautiful shots of a train.

***** By the end of november last year it was pretty close to -20c (-4f) and we had three feet of snow on the ground, and on new years day when my brother and I went out it was -32c and sunny. Brrr

You'd get used it eventually I would think. Also, air brakes don't like cold weather. The so called "tipping point" for most railways in the cold is -25c I think. Since cold air in denser than warm air, the air compressors in the locomotives have a harder time sending the air down the air hoses for the brakes. If it gets cold enough and the air compressor can't send air down the hoses your train will slowly grind to a halt.

Awesome video! I could definitely take the lashup on the third train with 2 GEVOs as DPU! Although one thing: I won't be able to make any more videos until the 24th because the days are getting really short, and I'm busy on the next weekends... but I promise you'll like the video I make on the 24th!
