Railpro ULT EMD 16-645E3

This is a sample of Railpro's ULT (ultimate series) EMD 16-645E3 prime mover file. The video shows startup and shutdown, all 8 notches and transitions. The source recording was made from a prototype SD40-2 under load.
The video captures the sound as it plays from my locomotive. My video equipment is unable to capture all the subtleties in the sound, therefore it sounds much better in person than on this video. However, this should at least give you a taste of the quality of the sound.

These sound files sound alot better than before. Hopefully they'll be able to build a sound file library as big as LokSound had and sound just as good. Your speaker placement and the sound chambers you've built also help out alot. Awsome work!!!! I just hope they work on their horns alittle more.....

Thanks James. These new sounds are hands down some of the best sounds available. The source recordings themselves are excellent quality (all taken under load), and the editing is near perfect. There is no perceptible loop on any of the new recordings that I have heard. The sounds mix in a way that sound very natural....no annoying repeats or loops. The horns do need some work, but I just make all my own horn sounds from actual recordings (you are able to upload your own sounds to Railpro modules now). All my horns are custom. Speaker placement and sound chambers are very important. I've settled on sugar cube speakers and my own styrene enclosures. I place one towards the front of the hood, and one towards the rear....that centers the sound right on the exhaust stack. I also wire in series so I don't overdrive the speakers (they are all 1 watt max) and the sound is plenty loud. All my locomotives are only running at 30-40% volume.

KPack you've do e a great job and I enjoy your video updates. I'm very computer illiterate and wouldn't know where to begin making my own custom horns or any other sounds for that matter. Thank you for the great reply and I hope to see more of your videos soon 😉👍

When you have a horn recording that you would like to add to a Railpro module, you need to edit it into three parts: beginning, middle loop, and end. The beginning and end are just what the words say.....the beginning of the horn sound and the end of the horn sound. The middle loop is tricky. You have to find a section of the recording that is just the right length of time and edit it so that there are no perceptible "pops" or "clicks" when you play it in loop. That is very difficult and I struggle with this. Once you have a good loop, beginning, and end you use the Railpro Assistant software to convert those files into Railpro format, upload them onto the Railpro controller, then download them onto the locomotive module. The program I use to edit sounds is free: Audacity. It's a bit of a pain to learn, but there are videos out there explaining the basics.

Thanks! I used two sugar cube speakers I bought from Digikey. I think they were 11mmx15mm, 8 ohms, 1 watt max power. I built boxes for them out of styrene. They are mounted where the factory board was....one towards the front and one to the rear, with the Railpro module sandwiched between them. This centers the sound right at the exhaust stack, which is exactly what I want.

I have RAIL PRO now and LOVE it!! My question is how do you go thru notches 1-8 without loco moving? Thanks

On the locomotive setup screen, scroll through until you reach the page that has a large button with "auto" on it. Swap it to "manual" notching. Then set up two function buttons to act as the manual notching controls. They must use the "engine +/-" graphic (the buttons are coded) and be assigned to "action-notch up/action-notch down" respectively. See the operators manual for clearer instructions.
