Great video. One of the most interesting and well-documented I've seen, in spite of the UP/CSX confusion.

Awesome Video my friend! Out of all the crossings you filmed, this has got to be my most favorite. I love the signal with the really tall gate and how it had a stablizer to help it when in the down positon. This crossing needs cantilevers though, or at least one.

So did the right turn signal remain an arrow or was it changed back to a red ball? I think a red arrow would be best, because it indicates no turn on red.
@TheTrainStationinc9 жыл бұрын
It is currently a red arrow. Indiana was all red balls until the last year or so. Now any left or right turn signal being replaced gets red arrows. They are also now changing from dog houses to flashing yellow arrows where feasible.
@user-marco-S9 жыл бұрын
+wisecrac99 Here we have a red arrow for turn signals for years. And what do you mean with "dog houses"(unknown for me)? What very strange is for me is a red blinking traffic light. (why red, why not orange.) No HD? No problem, we can see everything.
@TheTrainStationinc9 жыл бұрын
+Marco S , Hello Marco. I couldn't remember where you comment was to reply to you, but I finally found it. A "dog house" signal is just a nickname for the signal in this video because it is kind of shaped like a dog's house. The signal has a red light on top then a yellow arrow next to a yellow ball and under that a green arrow next to a green ball. Your question about why the light is blinking red is what I really wanted to answer. I don't know how many countries do this, so I will assume you are from the UK. And I can't say I am completely right, but if I understand correctly, in the UK when traffic lights are either malfunctioning or intentionally flashing they flash yellow/orange in all directions. When this happens motorist there know that means they have to obey the posted signs that tell them to yield or not. In America, we do not have signs. When the light is flashing you'll either have a yellow or red flashing aspect. Yellow means you have the right-of-way, but be cautious. A red flashing light is the same as having a stop sign. In many cases all directions have a flashing red. This means all directions must stop and take turns. This all-way stop rule also applies when the lights are dark. I like the UK way better because even though we have had it this way for decades motorist still don't know what to do, especially when the lights are dark. But it is too late to change. If they tried to change to all directions flashing yellow it would be a disaster.

+wisecrac99 Ok, it is now clear for me what "dog house" means. And fyi, i am from the Netherlands. Red blinking or orange, it is what you are used to.

*Orange* is a color between _red_ and _yellow._ Usually _amber_ is a considered a color between _orange_ and _yellow._ But, sometimes, _yellow_ and _amber_ are used interchangeably. The official "yellow" color of turn signals on automobiles is amber. For railroad signals, the name yellow is usually used in the United States (and Canada?), and amber is used in the rest of the world. Traffic signals in the United States utilize 5 official colors: *Red* (Stop) *Amber* (Stop before entering intersection if not already in it, Red will soon appear) *Green* (Proceed when clear) *Portland Orange* (Pedestrian-Don't Walk) *Lunar White* (Pedestrian-Walk) There is definitely a difference between Portland orange, and red.

Makes me think there's a pinched wire somewhere. When the gates start going up, it starts to flash correctly. Then shortly after that, seems to flop back and forth.

Why traffic lights flash red ?
@jovetj5 жыл бұрын
Electronic traffic signal controllers have a separate device on them called a _conflict monitor_ whose job it is to monitor which lights are turned on every moment. If the monitor determines that unsafe or conflicting aspects are shown to drivers, the monitor deactivates the controller by putting it into flashing mode. When the truck struck the traffic light, it's likely that some wires got crossed or pinched (even only for a moment) and the conflict monitor observed that.

+Jim Bryan Thanks Jim! CSX mainly uses AAR channels 38 to call the dispatcher (160.680). The channel you mainly hear on my videos is 46 (160.800), which is what they use to call out the signals they pass, defect detectors and other communications. I great place to learn more is a website by Richard Carlson at scannermaster.com .

Huge! Every time there is strong winds it breaks the shear pin and Indus up laying against the utility wires.

I really don't think it needs to be that large! If you're too stupid to round a corner and notice a part of a gate telling you to stop , not to mention the flashing lights and bells, I don't know what we can do for the motorist!
