My grandpa and I restored the orange northern pacific speeder probably 15 years ago. It used to be owned by a guy out here in Washington state where we are from. It’s always good to see familiar speeders on the rails!

I do like speeders. Grew up watching Buster Keaton"the Railrodder" crossing Canada with his stolen speeder.🚂🇨🇦🇺🇲🙋

The gates don’t activate due to the wheels being insulated on the cars. Weight doesn’t have much to do with it on clean rail. This was done so the cars wouldn’t activate the circuit when parked or working near crossings. Some hy-rails have a switch that can be thrown to shunt the crossings if needed. Great video thank you for coming out and showing support for a great cause

Most, if not all speeders have insulated axle hubs so as to not engage track circuits. At the PA Trolley Museum motor cars have been instumental in the maintenance and development of our railway. At first we had Monongehela Railway #39, then #44 and now Union Railroad #396 Section gang car, alll products of Fairmont.

My Grandpap worked on those and other MOW equipment at the Youngwood yard. Ywd in the steam days was the biggest east of Pgh and west of Altoona. The whole Buncher park was Pennsy complete with a roundhouse.. And the line connects CSX and NSX!

Colorful speeders across the states. Many of these speeders retain logos from fallen flags. They're doing this for TFT. I like the Chessie System and New York Central speeders. Those two are my favorites.

The old Simpson Logging Railroad had a big speeder. It gets trucked to model railroad train shows on the Olympic Penninsula here in Washington.

I use to live in Blythe CA . We had a spur rr of the CA/AZ line run through our town north to south. Almost every spring and fall a group of about 20 speeders traveled through town. The tracks end about 20 miles south so I could see them coming and going. Our city park was along the tracks so they often stopped for lunch and bathrooms. It end when the tracks were pulled up. Rick

I've always liked MoW equipment like the rescue trains, cranes, ballast hoppers, tie flats and of course speeders. The 3rd one from the begining is quite similar to ones I've seen in my country. Our speeders here are normally quite large, with the smallest I've seen being a 4 seater and the largest a 12 seater, the most common baing 4 to 6 seats. I've always wanted to model some but they're quite problematic to do so due to their small size with small wheels and often large windows making finding motor that fits them quite the trouble.

My favorite was the chessie system,always did like chessie.I can remember when the Illinois central/ I.C.G. ran speeders right by our house on the mainline from Paducah to Louisville.

The" motor handcar " (New Haven term) numbered 211 Western Maryland was close to favorite. In January or February of 1970 (first winter in train service) I recall the cold. Was called off the spare board to flag one from Boston (Dover Street Yard) to Cedar Hill in New Haven the coldest 157 miles I ever endured. There was only one spot on my body that hadn't turned blue...use your imagination. No side curtains forget a heater.

I’d be speculating to be sure, but since we test crossings with a .06 ohm shunt, the Speeders should activate a crossing. Since the Movement was Escorted by RR personal, the crossings were probably “Keyed Up” to facilitate a fast move of the Speeder Convoy.

What kind of motor is in that tiny little thing?!
@Island_Line_Rail_Productions Жыл бұрын
Each car has a different motor. Smaller cars have a two stroke engine, the larger ones have a 4 stroke. some even have diesel engines. I have 3 Fairmont cars, each with a different engine. My oldest car, a 1942 or 43 Fairmont M19E built for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (ACL) has a two stroke Fairmont ROC engine (Huge Single cylinder) and a belt drive. My next oldest car is a Fairmont MT19 Built in the Late 60s to early 70s (Last Shopped in 1976), This car was build for the Seaboard Coast Line (SCL) and has a Onan CCKB (Onan is now owned by Cummins). It has a two speed (Low/Hi) (Forward/reverse) transmission and chain drive to the rear wheel. My largest and most powerful car is my Fairmont A6 "Gang car". "A" cars aka "Gang cars" were used for track gangs to do heavy maintance whereas the smaller cars were more for track inspection and light maintane. The A6 can haul many trailer cars loaded with ties and or people depending on the job. The A6 I own has a Ford straight 6 as the power with a typical 4 speed transmission like you would see in a truck. It also has a reversing gear which allows the car to be run in reverse in all 4 gears. It is a chain drive to both axles and even has vaccum brakes, something that only the largest cars have. Not all A6 cars have those type of brakes. my plan for that car is to strip it to the frame, extend the frame by 6 feet and build a custom Plymouth Switcher off that. I will be painting it as a Rutland Railroad engine to as close to scale as possible. The Rutland's Island Line used to run about 500 feet from my house so thats is the insperation for the paint scheme

i thought the gates got tripped by current through the axle not weight, calling those speeders is an oxymoron!! they had those come here a couple years back never saw the appeal over a high railer myself! if you're looking for something to watch you might give thunderbolt 1000 productions last post a look, he's got the actual video where the Straberg 475 hit a MOW backhoe head on because a moron didn't throw a switch when they parked the backhoe!
