A basket twist handled spike knife has been on my "to do" list, and I'm glad I saw your work. Hadn't thought of cutting all the way and then forge welding; probably easier than using a hot cut! Thanks!

Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you are successful. I've made a couple attempts at forge welding a Railroad spike handle to a leaf spring blade but haven't felt the welds were completely successful. Good luck.

Thanks. I have another video coming soon on what I'm using these for and of course they would make great handles for most anything.

Seems like a good combo if you are also adding carbon steel for a blade

Thanks for watching and commenting. They would make unique handles for many things. When I did these they were made for walking stick toppers.

42 seconds in and shut it off wont bother finishing the video at all...why? The music is overwhelming and distracting it doesnt need to be there and is so gods be damned annoying that it isnt worth suffering through even on mute

Thanks for the comment. I agree the music isn't needed. Check out my more recent forging videos, I left the music out. Let me ask you this, do you find commentary useful? Voice over? Or as I tend to do written explanation? Or maybe just pure forging?

@@christopherharrylang7424 that depends on if your aiming for instruction or entertainment ...if aiming for instruction i find either running commentary or voice over is useful both are used by the larger instruction channels like joey van der steeg and black bear forge whereas entertainment channels either leave out the commentary and music altogether for a more ASMR experience or they are glaring in your face montage vids like alec steele ...personally i come to youtube for project ideas and to see what other smiths are making and how they are doing it lol after 27 years of smithing ive run out of ideas and inspiration ...thats what caught my eye with this video was a project i hadnt thought about yet it was truly a shame the music interrupted it

@@christopherharrylang7424 so yeah commentary is good voice over is good pure forging is good...text over? Meh i find it a distraction trying to watch what your doing and how along with trying to read can result in not paying attention to either so i would abandon text

I appreciate the feedback. I'm pretty much just a hobby blacksmith and youtuber so any constructive criticism is welcome especially as to the video experience.

@@christopherharrylang7424 if you need help with any projects or video feed back join "blacksmithing for beginners and experts" on Facebook im always checking in on that group and those guys&gals love youtube channels especially the little guys just starting out ...i freely admit im a bit blunt and to the point with my commentary ( i should write a disclaimer) i dont mean to offend so i hope i havent but i dont go sugar coating things either that being said i think you could benefit from a larger viewer base to keep ya goin and maybe get pointers along the way even as just a hobbyist....i frequently wonder why i chose this as a career when i decided starting at 9 years old was a good idea...now im rambling ...i do that sometimes 😂
