Crossing the Saint Johns River on the auto train in 2014 we take a nostalgic look back in time to
the Sanford Florida area. Via slides and some vintage VHS tape we get a then and now glimpse
of the Atlantic Coast Line passenger station, some original auto-train equipment and a brief look
at rands yard. The railroad time capsule returns us to 2015 where we end our journey at the
Sanford Sunrail station. ALL ABOARD!!!

Very interesting footage and images of the original Auto-Train. As an historian on this subject, I can safely say every "scrap" of film -- 35mm, VHS, you-name-it -- is valuable in preserving the history of this unique aspect of railroad history. Thank you for sharing... 👍👍

my dad had his tile factory near the FPL sub station that is near the bridge, when i was a kid i could sneak through the bushes and sit next to the leads there and watch all this, before the bridge was built it was not uncommon for 46 to be tied up for up to an hour sometimes

That area truly was a dump back then but a lot of it has been renovated and improved. It is still not-so-nice, but is much, much nicer than before.

Do you have any footage from the 70’s or early 80’s of the Sorrento branch at Sanford? Or the line that branches off through heathrow into Altamonte springs?

The closest I can come to that is the cab ride on the Central Florida Adventure Dinner train from 1996 which used to depart from Altamonte Springs to Toronto and then head north. That would have been the last remaining vestige of the line you referred to that went through Heathrow from Sanford. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYKthqqIiLNrsK8 Hope that helps, thanks for watching

Awesome videos Dave! It's great to see old-timey Auto Train, Seaboard System, Family Lines etc. Your narration and video production are professional too. Are the DVD-Rs you used to sell exactly the same content as the videos posted on your KZbin page here??

Yes they are. The KZbin version is shorter with more editing. Thanks for watching and your kind words.

Ive enjoyed many of your videos and assume you do the voiceovers....If this is true have you thought of doing radio or public announcements? Perfect talent for it!

Thank you so much for the compliment Kevin and your check is in the mail. I was in the radio-commercial broadcasting business from 1965 to 1996 so that's what I did for a living. I sounded better back then. Thanks again, flattering comments like yours are appreciated. It's great that there is a platform like KZbin where I can share my collection of radio air checks and railroad photography. Had digital photography been available 30 years ago I could have been a lot less picky then I was back then with only 36 exposures per roll of slide film or a roll of 8mm film that could only hold about three minutes of video with no sound.

These old Auto Train dome cars and the Hiawatha observation are gems - way too important to just let rot, or scrap. I'd hope these cars have been saved. Does anyone know what became of them? Where are they now?
