Mooie review! Oncomfortabel voor lange ritten waar ik vaak in zit tussen Oostende en Antwerpen. Ik zie ze liever korte trajecten rijden.

This is positively the worst "train" or rather metro/tram (because that is what it really is) in the history of Belgian railway for the following reasons. 1) there are no compartments separating the seated passengers from the outer doors. This means that foul weather like rain/ snow/ cold wind ... has unobstructed access to the passengers. This result in cold draft winds trough out the whole train. 2) The seats are very hard and very close to each other, which makes them not ergonomic and eventually painful to sit on after some (short) time. 3) In each "compartment" there are only two 4-seats which have a disgracefully small table. All the other seats (95% of all) are just double and have no table or litter bin at all. 4) The overhead luggage rack is just big enough for a lady's hand-back, definitely not sufficient for big travel trunks. 5) The elec socket is only present for the 4-seat. 6) First class is exactly the same as second class, just that the cloth over the equally bad seats is of a darker colour. So this really is a third class train, do not get fooled by the 2nd en 1th class signs. 7) Only one toilet for the entire train. The overall conclusion of this disgraceful "train" is obvious!

Nonsense. This train is exactly like pretty much every other local train in every country designed in the last 15 years. They're not better or worse. And they're designed like that for very good reason: maximizing capacity and reducing dwell times. These are not meant to be trains you're on for any length of time. For shorter journeys, they're perfectly fine. I agree that they're not suited for long intercity services, but that isn't what they're designed for. Now, NMBS do use them on some of these services, but I'm hoping that'll end once the M7 starts entering service on a large scale. But for short journeys, I like them: easy and quick to board, plenty of seats, easy to see through the entire set at busy times so you can find a spot, quiet and smooth ride.

I take this one everyday, the compartment doors are usefull but NMBS has only 1 type of train without so... Look at NS and you will see less compartment doors even a train without toilet they have(they renew them with toilet). The luggage rack is good enough never needed it actually(when I stand up I hit the rack cuz it is to low).

Oh and, I don't agree with your first thing. You said: There are no compartments seperating the seated passengers from outer doors. This is because: The doors are made for that. That's the whole reasons those doors keep closing when somebody opens it. To keep the heat inside the train so it doesn't get to cold in there.

I can see why people disagree with my comment, I would however like to clarify something. This Desiro Siemens model is officially listed as a “Lighttrain” and for good reason. It was designed to be used on metropolitan transportation networks, just like the RER in Paris or the London Overground. Big modern cities use lighttrain as a way to upgrade their public transportation network to connect sub-urban areas, which usually lie beyond their current city transportation network. You can look at it as the next transportation method in line for big cities; bus, tram, underground/metro and then overground/lighttrain. If this lighttrain is used for that purpose, there is no problem and no comment on my behalf. And I know that it was the initial idea of the SNCB to use this lighttrain for exactly that purpose. A sub-urban lightrail-network for Brussels, named the S-train. My entire discontent and frustration lie in the fact that the SNCB uses this S-train model on Inter-city connections, with travel duration of multiple hours. Something Siemens never intended this model to be used for, hence them marking it as a ‘Lighttrain”.

Leuke video! Ik weet niet zeker of ik met de Desiro mee ben geweest maar het kan bijna niet anders want ik ben vanaf Essen naar Antwerpen gereden(met een aangenaam geprijsd kaartje waarvoor je in Nederland op zijn minst een abonnement nodig hebt!). Ik heb wel een vraag,met de aanschaf van de GTW treinen en ook SLT is de gelijkvloerse instap de standaard geworden(evenals de Flirt,SNG en ik dacht ook de LINT,de Protos en de nieuwe ICNG). Hoe zit dat nu eigenlijk in België? Als ik me niet vergis is dat nu nog niet echt een ding aldaar?

Een ideetje voor misschien eens in de toekomst, een persoonlijke rangschikking maken. De eerste plaats wordt een lastige bij mij, maar als laatste de MW41. Omwille van verschillende redenen. Een eerste is slechte persoonlijke ervaring (heb hem veel tijdens de spits moeten nemen tussen Zottegem en Melle/Merelbeke, was altijd overvol met de meest boertige tieners), met overvol mijn volgend punt, elk treinstel bestond uit 2 wagons, zonder mogelijkheid tijdens de rit tussen 2 treinstellen te switchen, gevolg was dat regelmatig de helft bomvol zat, en de andere helft redelijk wat plaats. Ook is het een complete kooi van Faraday (zo goed als geen gsm signaal). Het ineterieur vind ik niet aangenaam, een lelijk blauwachtig plastieken boel, voor mensen slecht te been is het tevens lastig instappen, vooral aan de uiteinden (vaak ook duw en trekwerk om je naar de deur te wringen). Een andere min (wat bij de meeste NMBS treinstellen het geval is), geen stopcontact. Ook is er geen aanduiding waar je je bevindt (vooral als het donker is is het soms lastig te weten waar je bent, in het bijzonder wanneer je indommelt, in combi met vaak geen omroep/geen verbinding, zodat je de treinlocatie niet kunt checken, heb een paar keer gedacht dat ik mijn halte voorbij was 😅). En tenslotte, soms stinken ze en het zijn echte lawaaierige rammelbakken. Ook voor hun leeftijd zien ze er te oud uit. Ik hoop dat er snel nieuwe dieseltreinen komen. En als laatste de zitcapaciteit, valt tegen.

@@RailroadTV Heb het juist op jouw nieuw filmpje gelezen 🙂. De klassieke AM75 is idd mooi, zeker eerste klasse, komt bij mij ook bij het topsegment, helaas rijden ze niet bij mij. De M4 was ook zo'n leuk interieur met de tekeningetjes tegen de wand, heb ik nog net recent genoeg meegemaakt om me te herinneren. Maar in het algemeen zijn de gouden jaren qua comfortabele inrichting helaas vervlogen, wel begrijpelijk om het commercieel te houden.

@@RailroadTV nu iets anders, wat ik een leuke brasserie vind, is in Baardegel (het stationneke), is in een oud treinstation, maar het interieur heeft een duidelijke knipoog naar de spoorweg van vroeger.
