It is pretty fascinating. Especially since the narration comes from the "real world" of rail. Its pretty cool in a way that 99% of channels are Not... "Fans, of rail" dont hold a candle to this channel. Ive seen awesome scenery and car/engine artists, weathering etc.. But the majority of us I think, often lose-ourselves like kids poking a stick into a fire, while someone we look up to' tells stories we cant get enough-of. Its great stuff. AND, Dj has great production, music, etc. anyway ramble-over.. Thanks for the hard work D.

I too remember seeing these hoppers stored all over W PA. I've seen two different numbers for how many were ordered: 1,750 and 2,500. Between the two yards at Shell, this yard, and what's on the road at any given time I would think Shell would be very close to having them all on site. Another top shelf video, thanks so much for putting it together for us!

It looks like a GP40 or GP40-2 that has had its turbocharger removed, essentially making it a GP38 or GP38-2. Notice there are now two stacks with spark arrestors directly over the engine compartment and no turbo stack? Or maybe it's been repowered with something completely different.

This is a cool video DJ. I am kind of looking at the from the customer perspective. I work for a plastics manufacturer and we get most of our resin in railcars like these, but most of our resin comes from the gulf coast from either Chevron or Dow. Although, Shell is one of our customers that buys our product.

Great video, DJ! When you moved to the stub end of the yard, I take it that all the industrial trackage on the other side of the CSX mains are that third railroad you mentioned, and not CSX customers? The split rail derail looks like a great opportunity to try one's hand at hand laying switches without having to get it perfect yet.

OMG DJ, "The Rocks" has really changed since the days of it being the main yard for the P&LE railroad. Unstoppable was a fun action adventure, sadly it's all Hollywood with very little real truth in the movie. When they were filming the movie, they were storing the equipment here in Conway. Here's a fun fact, CSX would not allow the movie locomotives or equipment on CSX ROW, so everything was trucked from Conway to Horsehead aka St. Joe Lead in Kobuta (Monaca) for the scene in the movie. Great Drone photo DJ of the new Shell Cracker Plant in Kobuta, I didn't realize just how big of a yard shell built at that location. I know for awhile they had one of our ex-Southern High Short Hood GP38's., not sure if they still do? They may have been leasing that unit through Larry's Truck Electric, not sure? Yes DJ, stay away from that truck stop, it's probably full of "Lot Lizards" at night 🤣😂 It's funny how every railroad has the same idea, but does things a little differently. We have green ties with green reflectors in the engine house territory in Conway. Also we don't have any bumpers, just small wheel stops on the end of all the spur tracks and these are old school wheel stops that are basically a square block welded onto the head of the rail at the end of the track. Another great drone video DJ, thank you for sharing the video and information on the new Shell Cracker operation. Cheers, Rich S.

@JDsHouseofHobbiesСағат бұрын
I noticed the color difference between the main and the sidings...and the truck scale near the parked loco.
@djstrainsСағат бұрын
One of the great advantages of the drone is seeing things from an angle like we see our layouts and how ballast and even tie spacing is different at times.

Question DJ- Did you ever run trains over any of the former B&O lines around Pittsburgh? Like the P&W sub that runs from Homestead up through schenley tunnel and then up through mars and zelienople and then on to west pittsburg? Or the W&P Sub between Homestead and Washington, PA?

So could this design be used for an interchange on a branch line? ( Obviously scaled down to maybe 5 tracks) and then same thing, make all the tracks stub ended except for 2 for a run around off the main line.

Hello DJ, --- There is a very large railroad bridge next to Interstate 70 across the Monongahela River that I think was part of the Wheeling - Lake Erie system, but may be part of CSX now. Do you know if it is still operational ? It appears to go from South Pittsburgh to Connellsville.

100% Agree "Unstoppable" garbage movie, made railroaders look like a bunch of dummies. Curious does your brakemen count cars when cutting your loads to yard track or is it all written up length x distance?
@djstrains17 сағат бұрын
Both in a way. We do have a distance counter on the engine so I know how far in the track I am, and the conductor does have paperwork (tonnage graph) which shows each car and the length from head end to the rear and where to make his cut.
